Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

『Learned "Rapid Slash", consuming 3 skill points.』

『Buzz—』

『Successfully obtained the intermediate-tier class: Sword Saint!』

Saelran looked at the information on his attribute panel, a hint of surprise and realization appearing on his face.

"As expected, the method of acquiring classes in this other world is different from the game, but applies to me as well!"

However!

Saelran lowered his head, blinking a few times.

Obtaining a class instantly, without a "confirm" option?

At the moment, the conditions for acquiring combat-type classes can be divided into two methods:

1. Obtaining a class by touching weapons or equipment related to that class.

Advantage: Basic classes are relatively easy to obtain.

Disadvantage: Intermediate and advanced classes are harder to acquire.

2. Indirectly obtaining relevant classes by consuming skill points to learn skills.

Advantage: More flexibility; as long as there is a target and enough skill points, one can obtain that class simply by having an opponent use their abilities.

Disadvantage: The class is automatically obtained after learning the related skill, with no option to refuse so caution is required.

Saelran considered the pros and cons of the two class requirements. Compared to the second point, having the qualification "Genius," a general basic job, makes the first method less significant.

He glanced at his attribute panel.

After obtaining the "Sword Saint" class, his overall level had risen to Level 2, and he had gained 3 additional skill points.

"With this leveling speed, it's no wonder some players in the game ended up with over a hundred different classes," Saelran muttered.

The fact that simply possessing different classes could raise his level also flashed through his usually calm mind.

"The 3 skill points gained per level stay the same."

"So, in theory, I can get up to 300 skill points. If I die and lose a level, then level up again… could I repeatedly gain skill points?"

The thought suddenly crossed Saelran's mind.

This wouldn't work in the game Oblivion Gate, but in this other world, Saelran wondered whether he could abuse such a bug.

He shook his head.

He set the idea aside for now; it wasn't something he should be testing at the moment.

Before the panel information disappeared, Saelran used two more skill points to learn "Instant Reflex" and "Light Consecutive Slash! He planned to keep the remaining point for later use.

At this moment, a completely updated attribute panel appeared before him.

Saelran quickly skimmed over the information.

"Only HP, physical attack, and agility increase? As expected, different classes boost different stats. Also, intermediate-tier classes only give 10 additional points, and basic classes likely give even less."

"Fortunately, I have 'Genius', so I can skip basic classes entirely."

"But intermediate-tier classes give passive skills," Saelran noticed the new passive listed.

Up to 10% slash damage!

How should he describe it… quite average.

Saelran pondered for a moment. "What's more surprising are the skills themselves. The difference between martial arts and class skills is obvious."

"Rapid Slash has explicit damage and cooldown."

"But Instant Reflex and Light Consecutive Slash don't have these, only minimal descriptions."

In Oblivion Gate, warrior class skills and the magic system were slightly different.

Most spells cast by magic casters do not have cooldowns and only required mana, giving rise to the saying: "MP is the true lifeline of a magic caster."

Of course, high-level spells and abilities did have cooldowns and specific requirements.

Warrior skills did not consume mana, so they had cooldowns, and some special skills even required a certain amount of MP or other restrictions.

Suddenly, the spectators standing up startled Saelran.

He then noticed a few of the people around him staring at him in surprise.

"Ahem,"

Saelran cleared his throat expressionlessly, and stood up with the others.

Even though he didn't understand what was happening, copying what everyone else did wasn't wrong.

Apparently, because he had risen abruptly, Saelran had leaned forward and nearly fallen. He quickly reached out and braced himself on the shoulder of the spectator in front of him.

In front of Saelran sat a middle-aged man with brown hair and a thick beard, giving him an intimidating appearance. The sudden pat on the shoulder especially with noticeable force made the man feel as though Saelran had done it intentionally.

"What's the matter, kid?" the brown-haired man growled, clenching his fist as he turned to stare at Saelran.

"Ah, I was just a bit careless." Saelran pulled his hand back, wearing a regretful expression.

"Hmph!" The brown-haired man glared sharply at Saelran, as if determined to remember Saelran face—as though he planned to cause trouble later.

Saelran frowned slightly.

Given his current situation, he stuck to the principle of avoiding attention and naturally disliked unnecessary trouble.

The reason he felt unsteady earlier was because he had suddenly realized the significant boost in his stats, something quite unusual.

But it only lasted a moment.

Saelran clenched his fists, feeling the increase in power. "The increase in basic stats is directly reflected in my body. Even though it's sudden, it feels like I've trained for years."

He lifted his gaze, letting it sweep across the crowd before landing on the arena.

By the time he looked back at his attribute panel, Gareth and Serik had already left the arena.

Everyone had stood up because the nobles and royal family in the circular tower seats had departed first, and commoners naturally had to show respect.

Understanding the situation, Saelran stood quietly with the others. This was not the time to stand out.

At least the nobles hadn't caused any trouble.

Saelran glanced once more at the circular tower seats, a bit disappointed.

He had hoped to see The Pearl of the Kingdom, but the structure of the tower blocked his view completely.

He ended up standing there for a full thirty minutes.

Saelran's lips twitched, and he took a deep breath.

Those special-class nobles were quite troublesome.

As the nobles left in their designated order, the solemn atmosphere gradually returned to noise and chatter.

Most of the discussions centered on the outcome of the fight between the Strongest Knight and The Barber, along with waves of envy since both had been invited to the palace by the king regardless of victory or defeat.

At that moment, the brown-haired man turned with a sinister grin, clenching his fist, ready to hit the black-haired boy behind him.

But the space behind him was already empty.

"What the—!? He ran that fast? Don't let me catch you, kid!" the brown-haired man barked in disbelief, unable to hold back a curse.
