Chapter 5.5: The Secret of the God of Order

I am the God of Order, and also the God of Freedom and the God of Fortune.

I have a secret, one that absolutely must not be known by Dad.

I know the exact time and location each time he descends to the mortal world.

So, I secretly arrange for people. Lots of them. The vendor selling candied chestnuts, the couple holding hands, the vagrant napping by the roadside... They are all my most loyal police officers, dressed in mortal clothes, acting like nonchalant extras in the script I've written.

Dad's mortal body is fragile. He feels cold, gets hungry, and could easily be killed by a stray bullet.

He will never know that the car accident he "luckily" avoided happened because I tugged the strings of fortune. The "helpful" passerby who gave him directions was the calmest chief of my police force.

Last time, he went for a walk in a district ruled by gangs. I was so scared. Just before he turned into that dark alley, I made the two rival gangs leave in a rush over a ridiculous misunderstanding—each thought the other had stolen their boss's beloved cat—so they hurried off to save the cat.

Dad walked through the empty alley and even remarked, "It's so quiet here today."

I breathed a sigh of relief, but my heart felt blocked by something.

I know that even if his mortal body dies, his primordial spirit won't perish,

but what child would ever wish to see their father in pain?

I use Order to build an invisible cage for him.

I use Freedom to weave a perfect lie for him.

I am the god who protects him, and also the child who deceives him.

This secret makes my heart feel like it's being gently pricked every time I see his unguarded smile.
