Chapter 46: Entrance Exam (5)
Third Person POV:
Strong winds and a rapidly spinning tornado filled the vision of a participant who was accidentally hit by the attack of the brown-haired girl, Lia Elamin.
"It's like a disaster…" he muttered softly.
The tornado girl, or Lia, stood in the center of the disaster unharmed. She only looked at the participants with slightly furrowed brows.
Around her, several participants were being carried away by the wind; they screamed wildly to free themselves.
However, just as the participant almost succeeded, his body suddenly split in two. That made the other participants widen their eyes.
They looked over. There, Lia stood with her hand raised, looking at them with sad eyes. Then she said:
[Wind Slash.]
A sharply curved wind immediately shot towards one of them. Fortunately, the participant managed to dodge. But it turned out that wasn't all. Lia flipped her hand, and another sharp wind came.
The participant's eyes trembled; he couldn't dodge again.
Slice!
The sound of something being cut was heard in the ears of all participants, which gave them goosebumps.
Lia quickly shifted her hand to the side, then muttered again:
[Wind splitter]
Before anyone could react, their bodies were already halfway rejoined. They stared blankly at Lia with open mouths, then they began to fall and were eliminated.
Lia, still standing in place, smiled broadly and said in a small voice.
"This technique is insane…"
This technique he uses is a bonus from his class upon reaching Master rank. With it, he can create slashes and wind cleavers without needing to chant an incantation.
But that was it—maybe there would be others when she was promoted. But currently, she could only do that. To cast other magic, she had to chant a spell.
She began to walk with slow steps, her hair still fluttering as a result of the tornado she summoned. Lia snapped her fingers, and the tornado disappeared.
However, just as she had walked a few steps, someone lunged at her. A second-year student who was hunting the candidates attacked Lia.
Lia instinctively raised her hand and slashed using her wind blade. The second-year student arched his body in a strange way.
And with a quick movement, he kicked Lia's chest.
Thud!
The sound of a hit was heard. Lia staggered backward; she managed to cross her arms in the last second. However, since she was a mage, she took damage.
'Almost!'
Lia muttered softly, then shifted her hand to the side, creating a three-way slash, all aimed at the student.
Slash—!
But, the student only smiled faintly. He dodged with a graceful movement. That made Lia widen her eyes slightly.
She shifted her hand down, dividing.
Swish~!
The sound of sliced flesh was heard in the air. The student's chest area was neatly cut, but shallowly. He was surprised and froze for a moment.
However, Lia didn't wait; she sent a barrage of slashes simultaneously. The student flinched and moved quickly to dodge.
"It seems that wasn't enough," Lia mumbled vaguely.
She knew it wasn't enough, so she chanted her magic spell:
[Magic Circle ★: Wind Arrow!]
Several green magic circles appeared and released arrows made of wind; they shot towards the student.
The second-year student saw that and said with a furrowed brow.
"You annoying mage!" he said. His arrogance from before had long disappeared.
Then he pulled out his weapon, a sword. He crouched down and lunged towards Lia. Lia saw that and smiled faintly.
"Careless." She divided—not the second-year student, but the bell on his waist.
The student's eyes widened, not expecting it. And with a small clinking sound, the bell's strap was cut.
The student froze mid-stride, staring blankly at Lia, then disappeared.
Lia stood there, not moving. She got the bell easily because the student was careless and because her technique was suitable for doing that.
"You can't fight a pro player when it comes to strategy, ahem."
She shook her head. Lia knew that the second-year students were limited to keeping things balanced—maybe a little above so it was harder to get the bell.
So Lia took the opportunity to attack. And now she won. She looked at the large panel above the forest to check her device.
Lia Elamin: 300 points
Seeing that, she smiled widely, "Hehe, I guess that's enough, right?"
Lia twirled her brown hair and remembered something, "And isn't he participating too? My favorite?"
Slowly she smiled broadly, making her look like an angel. But if looked at closely, there was a cruel glint in her eyes.
Lia started walking while muttering something, "Can I ask for his autograph?"
She kept walking while engrossed in her thoughts and did not realize that the world was about to change in an uncertain direction.
...
...
Meanwhile, on the other side...
A girl was exploring a mountain with an innocent face, Mia Ohan. She looked around, her brow sharply furrowed.
"Brother, where are you? Why did he leave me to get lost here!?" she snapped.
That's right, Mia was lost, and here she was now, on a mountain and didn't know where else to go. She grumbled and sighed in annoyance.
"Aduh... What should I do??" Mia muttered.
A moment ago, she vented her frustration by burning the entire forest around her and the participants passing by.
"Why do I keep getting lost?" she continued.
Since a few years ago, she became directionally blind when she and her brother explored the city. Sometimes Mia ended up in the red-light district and met criminals.
As she was engrossed in her thoughts, she remembered the time in the school yard: Ren stood there smiling.
The first time she saw him, Mia was so shocked and almost cried if her brother hadn't stopped her.
Because how could she not be? They were good friends, but Ren suddenly left seven years ago without a word.
And look at him now, he was smiling in front of her and became the Vice Student Council President in the strongest Academy in the entire world.
That made her heart feel relieved and a little sad, because why didn't he send any news or letters? At least once a month.
Boom~~!
As Mia was still lost in her thoughts, a loud collision occurred far in front of her. That immediately woke her up.
She stared in that direction with a curious look and stood up. There, she saw dust flying in all directions and fallen trees.
Mia narrowed her eyes to see more clearly. Right then, someone emerged from the mist: her brother, Kyle, was thrown back.
That made Mia stagger in surprise. "B-Brother!? What is he doing!?"
Although small, she could still see him. However, that wasn't all; another person appeared in front of Kyle with terrifying speed.
Again, that made Mia surprised and widened her eyes.
"Ren!?"
