Story Arc: Nightmare Devil Arc
No POV:
Running towards the direction of the orphanage, they stopped in front of it. What was a big spacious surrounding became shards of misery, despair and dead bodies. Blood was stained everywhere even on the windows. Inside and out. At the entrance there was faint screaming and laughter.
Sounds of bodies could be heard as the audible thuds sounded through the hallway.
"Fucker's done a number on this place we'll probably not see anyone anymore.. tch"
Hayley grithed her teeth even through the helmet she wore it was clear that she was pissed.
"Alright we're going in"
She said as they all made their way to the wrecked orphanage.
"Oof"
"Where do you think you're going?"
Drex stumbled back. He was confused as to why he was denied entrance...
"Uhmmm inside?"
"Why?"
"Huh?? Cuz there's a freaking devil in there!"
"Are you tryna get yourself killed?"
"What?"
"True this is our mission... And sure enough there's a devil inside but he's like billions of leagues above you right now going inside will only get you killed and i can't risk that.. not yet"
Drex raised an eyebrow. As far as he knew it was only an A rank and even if he couldn't beat him he's sure he wouldn't hold them back.
"So what am I supposed to do here?"
Hayley looked at him with an 'isn't it obvious' look.
"Aren't you seeing the devils around? Your job is to fend them off while we clean up this mess. Let's go"
Without waiting for a response they ran in leaving Drex outside staring at the devils in front of him.
"is this some kind of joke? Does she seriously think I can't handle this...? They're just five. Sigh she really thinks i can't handle this. Don't underestimate m...."
Bang!
In a flash he was sent flying through a building.
"Okay i think she kinda overestimated me"
He brought himself back to his feet as he meets the sights of devils rushing towards him.
"I'm cooked"
Inside the orphanage, Hayley, Jax and Vax ran towards the noise but stopped dead in their tracks. The sight in front of them was horrifying. Dead bodies were littered everywhere blood stained the walls and the frightened look on the children's face stared back at her as many of them drew their final breaths at that moment.
She clenched her fist... They didn't make it in time.. she couldn't save them.. innocent souls.. lonely beings .. they're all dead.
She was already shaking.. seething with rage.
'I'm going to kill that bastard' were the only words that echoed in her mind.
The next instant she blitzed further into the building all the way to were Yuri sat as he devoured another corpse.
"Hmm?"
Instantly he moved and the wall behind him exploded.
He peered into the gaping hole and looked behind him. There he saw an enraged devil hunter shooting death glares at him.
He grinned
"Whoa there missy! That's some awesome firepower you got there.. but...."
He raised a tendril. In it was the girl he picked up earlier. She was bleeding on her head.
"If you're not careful she's gonna die."
Hayley instantly mellowed. It seemed the child was hit with debri.
"You didn't kill her..?"
"Heh why would i she's special!"
He brought the girl close to her face.
Hayley flinched.
"Ya feel that? She's got power.. it'll be a waste to kill her off just like that don't you think... I'm gonna train her..mould her in my own image. Whaddya think?"
Hayley stared as the child looked at her with half dead eyes.. dried tear streaming down her face. Dilated pupils.
"What have you put this child through"
Yuri withdrew the tendril..
"Oh just some father-daughter prep i was planning on adopting her but i killed the receptionist... Dang should've thought twice"
Hayley had enough and rushed him ready to throw a punch at him. Yuri smirked and brought the girl in front of him again promoting Hayley to stop inches before hitting her.
Yuri used that chance and punched her through the hallway.
While in the air Yuri hit with a follow-up sending her flying through the wall. He repeated this several times till Hayley crashed through another wall and hit the room she left Vax and Jax.
Turning towards the sound they saw Hayley on the wall as she fell.
Yuri soon came in flying towards her about to hit when Jax used his sword to counter. The blow was so strong it blew Jax away.
Yuri gathered his bearings and stared at the cut on his arm
He licked the blood.
"An interference huh .. I'll just beat you two both!!"
Drex on the other hand was struggling against the devils in front of him. Another one lounged at him, hitting him with enough force that he broke through another building.
"Shit this is way harder than I thought they're just five how am I not able to keep up"
He barely dodged another attack
"They're tougher than usual too. These aren't the same devils I fought a while ago"
Soon he was surrounded. Punches flying in all directions causing him to take extensive damage. He was finally able to escape his jacket torn and soaked with blood. He shakily brought himself back to his feet struggling to breathe.
"I guess if I'm gonna stay alive I'll have to transform....
But i still can't control it how am I supposed to keep up,.. tch this is the worst"
At that point he was hit into the air with another devil following up with an axe kick. He fell with another devil following up with another kick sending him flying.
"Fuck this... If i die here it'll only prove her right. Even if i die I can't die without taking one of these shitheads with me"
He said through splatters of blood. "I'm going to survive this and beat that bastard in there. And then I'm gonna rub it in her face!"
With that his skin color started to change with a bright red hue. His eyes turned yellow and his hair started to flair.
Grrrrr....
He stood up. His posture not completely straightened giving his back an unnatural hunch looking up, his neck made a cracking sound and saliva oozing from his mouth. He took a step forward. And another one. Then another... in an Instant a devil lost its head. Another step and another devil lost all it's limbs. He decapitated another and vaporized another.
"It's just me and you..."
His blood thirsty voice was heard before he lounged at the devil. His skin started to bulk; not to a muscular stature but just enough to match his body frame. The ground sunk as he took a step forward the devil stumbled back
"I sure hope you won't die by the time I start enjoying this..."
His lips disappeared exposing more of his jagged teeth. His lips were absent but he could still speak, where his mouth would only need to open for you to hear speech coming from it.
"Give me a challenge alright..."
In the next instant he launched himself towards the devil.
Vax and Yuri were locked in an exchange of blows destroying the sorrounding area. Sparks flew, the ground shook they both bled.
Unfortunately most of Vax's attacks weren't as effective due to the fact that the girl was still wrapped around Yuri's tendril so in a bid to minimize damage, he used closed attacks concentrated on one spot; his hands.
BIFF....
Vax was shot through some buildings. Using his sword he slowed down the momentum but Yuri appeared before him again.
BANG
The place fell quiet. Yuri brought his hand down revealing a bullet that was lodged in his palm.
He gritted his teeth. " Tch... I hate interruptions"
He turned his head to look for the where the bullet came from. He scanned the area. He used sense of sight, smell and hearing to try and catch his assailant. At this point he was loosing his patient.
Hayley on the on other hand sensed something. She felt an ominous pressure and knew what exactly was about to happen.
"VAX!!!!"
The moment he heard her he knew what was going to happen.

In the next instant bullets started flying in dessimating rocks and the sorrounding buildings. The bullets flew like a blizzard and destroyed everything in its path leveling the terrain completely in seconds. Dust filled the area as Jax turned a commercial street into a wasteland within seconds.
Yuri grinned. "That was a nice attempt to tell you the truth but shooting me from that far away won't really do much... I got tough skin ya know. And besides you were so desperate to kill me that you forgot about the..."
Turning to the direction of one of his tendrils he noticed that it was cut. The next instant Vax appeared carrying the child in his arms and walking towards Hayely to look after her.
Hayley was shocked as she didn't notice when he moved from that spot. He put the child in Hayely's arm and stumbled back to his feet, blood dripping from his body. It was as it seemed; he was caught in the cross-fire. Jax knew this was going to happen as he went through with the barrage.
Or perhaps It was just a gamble... One that he hoped would be worth taking...
"Oh ho ho ho you three make a pretty good team even putting your life on the line for a child you have never seen before... The natural instinct to protect.
Devils posses this even though we would rather prefer to cull our species. Despite that, some of our kind would prefer to die protecting another. It's a beautiful thing.....
But now..."
He pointed at the boulder tilting forward behind Hayely..
"I'm eager to know how far you would go for her.
Your friend here only survived that little stunt because he knew he would survive it. He avoided being hit in any vital area all whilst protecting the little runt. Impressive i must say i recognize such talent. But you... There's no escape. You'll get smushed in the next few seconds without away of protecting yourself."
He looked her dead in the eye...
"What are you going to do? Staying there will kill you but probably leave her alive.. I'm sure you know that"
Her heart raced. She didn't want to die but she couldn't allow the child to either. They were told to keep casualties to a minimum but they were already dead so it'll only make sense that she would want to come back with a survivor even if it's just one... Right.
"Times up"
Yuri's voice sounded through her ears as the boulder fell forward hurdling towards them.
Hayley held the child close. The child was still seeing this as the boulder was falling towards them.
Then....
TRGHH
Several seconds passed and when Hayley noticed she was still alive she looked up; her eyes meeting a certain red bodied demon. He didn't look the same she could tell something changed but she nonetheless knew who it was as she only knew one red devil.
His yellow eyes stared into hers and even through the helmet he could tell she was surprised.
"Hey thought I'd come give you a hand"
His deep voice rang through her ears. She looked down and took a deep breath..
"What are you doing?"
"Huh"
"Did I ask you to save me?"
"HUHHH??!!"
Drex was shocked as to why she reacted like that. Sure she hates him but it definitely didn't mean she'd rather die right?
Just then the child started wailing. She cried so hard and so loud that veins were present on her neck. It seems the shock had finally cleared and she could clearly grasp the situation. One look at Drex brought her to her emotional limit and she just had to let it all out
"See? You made her cry"
Drex pushed the boulder off of him "Well it's not my fault. I wouldn't be able to catch this thing without transforming"
"But i didn't need saving we were doing just fine"
He shot back. "A devil that looks like Doc Oc and a teammate that looks like he's about to bleed to death and acting incredibly nonchalant while watching you casually about to get crushed to death.. yeah sure you're doing an excellent job"
"Well at least they're making themselves useful.... Unlike someone i wish i never knew"
"Ughhh can you just shut up and let me save you!!"
"Over my dead body!!.... I'd rather die that to have you save...."
BANG
Drex was shot into wall reverting him back to normal. In his direction Yuri stood. Hands steaming as a result of firing that at attack. He looked up, evident rage in his eyes.
"I really hate interruptions..."
He started walking towards them .
"I'm going to kill you all right now: the child included. You can fight back but unless you find away under my tough skin i doubt you'll be able to do much damage... In your current state that would be nearly impossible and even if you wound me I can just find a person to eat; heck i could even eat one of my own"
His grin widened and he spread his two hands basking in his glory and pride.
"You're fighting a devil with perfect regeneration"
"Good"
Hmm?
"Then i don't have to worry about killing you"
BOOM
In the next Yuri was sent flying. Hayley turned to the direction of the dust as she saw something walking out. Humanoid build but devilish demeanor. His hands possess claws, his feet tore through his shoes and ripped part of his pants. His voice had an edgy tone to it; the kind of tone someone with anger issues would have.
Half of his face was covered with the same boney mask she saw earlier and the other half was still human but both eyes were a cyan color.
It was then that she realized that she actually recognized this person. Her eyes widened and beads of sweat formed on her forehead despite having a helmet on.
"So this is a mortal body.... Limble but fragile"
"H..how did you...?"
The pressure alone made it hard for her to speak.
"Would you prefer to ask questions..?"
Regaining her composure she replied. "Fine then if you're going to fight him do it but let me heal you first"
He chuckled. His response carried pride with it's words
"You put me on the same level as him... We are different beings in one body and if he dies it would become a problem. I need no healing. I need no help nor do I need backup because right now..."
He took a stance.
"I'm in control...."
