If it weren't for the incessant buzzing of the wings behind Ford's back, the interior of the hotel could almost have been described as deathly silent in that moment.

"Anyone with half a brain—come out on your own. Don't make me repeat myself."

Ford spoke coldly. Though the words sounded as if they were directed at Marshall in the corner, his pair of bulging, fly-like compound eyes never wavered, fixed firmly on Albert's position.

Both Albert and Hayes seemed to sense that something was wrong.

Albert felt it because the sudden disappearance of "God" had put him on edge. Acting on instinct, he quietly pushed the chair beneath him back a little, positioning himself so he could rise at any moment.

Hayes, on the other hand, reacted purely out of a soldier's long-honed sensitivity to danger.
