Chapter 14 - Letter

[Hope all is well, Sue.

If you didn't hear yet, the vampire queen Frieda has escaped from the church headquarters… That execution you must have heard of was a random girl who looked like her. We could never risk starting riots and ruining our reputation because of this. That's why it cannot spread further than cardinals, no matter what.

But that's not why I am contacting you; I need you to take action now.

First, send all your men over to Veilcroft. Cover every inch of it. From what I know, Frieda should be visiting that place soon. Orders are to kill on sight.

That's not possible by your lot. But there's a reason I am not contacting other organizations but you. We are to hire capable people from that little business of yours.

Jah and Desen could handle her. There aren't records, but actually, I was the one who caught them, I know them. On top of that, she's in a weakened state.

Send both of them with any other people of your choice and at least five thousand of your men. I will join them with the royal army and the holy knights,

Saint William.]

".…."

My pupils were tracing every word of the letter again and again. Finally, after the tenth read, my lungs inhaled a deep breath of the stinky, cold air.

This was… a lot of information.

When I thought about the name Frieda, the blonde, poison-feeding, cold woman in Alya's memories appeared out of nowhere, every time. What this meant was clear. That woman was the Vampire Queen.

I guessed I was a high-standing noble, but… the queen herself trained my maid?!

Though what matters most is: She escaped! My lips curled upwards. We clearly had a close relationship. I could really use her; learn more about the world, get trained by her, or just ask for her help.

I felt a bit conflicted at how they just grabbed a random girl and killed her for no reason whatsoever.

If I were that girl, that explanation for my death would be much worse than death itself. Having this low of worth as a person was scary.

No matter how much I critique those people in power, the fact wouldn't change. If I stay weak, the stronger party will control me... That's not so freedom like.

My fists clenched, I gotta get stronger… I could relate heavily to that girl somehow.

With a deep exhale, I returned to the matter at hand. Frieda is so cooked. She should realize that, too. Then, why would she go to a place that can be predicted by the enemy?

If that info isn't from some prophetic powers, as a queen of a race like vampires, she must realize that. What is so important about that place?

"Lock this area completely!" I heard a yell from outside.

_What mattered most was… the hatred. It went beyond anything for vampires. Royal army, holy knights, releasing slaves, and the tone of these people...

I was really in for an even wilder ride outside, wasn't I? I chuckled, pocketing the letter in my trouser pocket as my bare feet tapped against cold stone, my eyes narrowed towards the metallic door.

But at least, I got a direction. Learn more about Veilcroft, Saint William, and Frieda. Get stronger. Smash Alya's. I nodded repeatedly, rubbing my hands.

Squatting slightly, I located the golden revolver and holstered it against my waist and trousers.

Never really used a gun before. Either I'd sell it or give it to Alya. With a soft smile, I crouched closer to the wooden barrel.

"Let's leave…" I muttered, touching the wooden texture of the barrel.

[Ding!]

OHHH! I realised with one look at the screen, the system had finally completed processing my reward!

The golden tree glowed as one of the branches pulsed a piercing, bright golden energy that embraced the circle. The number 0.8% transformed to 100%. It quickly became a button with a coin-like surface covered by a carved picture of a man in samurai armor and helmet.

As I was admiring the details of the icon, my head trembled with a sharp pain, my vision blurring.

Next second, my hands were clenching hard on something like cold cardboard but way tougher.

Cards! A very high-quality deck of cards. Taking a deep breath, I took a proper look at them.

They were like those pokemon cards.

The same samurai on the icon. It wasn't just carved anymore, but a high-quality painting.

A handsome man, I'd guess in twenties, adorned in a dark red with a mix of black samurai armor and helmet, both twice his size. He was armed with two very long black katanas on his hip and a long golden spear on his back.

I instinctively knew; if I just willed as much for this card to be used, it would be used. And using most likely meant summoning this hero…

Oh my God! My hands started itching.

My excitement did a 180 as my eyes reached to the bottom of the card; his stats…

[HP: 1000,000]

[Attack: 4000,000]

[Defense: 2000,000]

[Signature Ability: Sword of Justice.]

[Description: Anything judged evil or immoral in the user's eyes cannot harm him.]

What the actual fuck?!

Are you really supposed to give this this early game, system?

[Whatever you mean… The hero you pull completely depends on your luck, host! There is a chance to even pull someone just like yourself who has no powers at all.]

"Um…" Now, I could potentially even waste all the farmed XP for that summon and be stuck with a useless piece of shit?

[Host is not a useless piece of shit! Don't talk about my host this way (ง'̀-'́)ง]

I turned away from the red screen with a dark face.

Wait… why are these stats in HP/attack/defense metrics?

[For simplification.]

Hmmm. If his stat value was similar to mine, considering my physical powers, this guy would be strong enough to destroy continents with punches.

[To use either Elixir of the first dawn or Commandment of submission on anyone, just ask me ;)]

That strength recovery card… why was this given with the echo? It would be too much of a coincidence if it were random.

[Because fallen heroes don't start with all their powers. They are back to level 1 too.]
