Chapter 17 - Chapter 17, Yu Zi Yu’s Predicament

After some contemplation, Yu Zi Yu put aside his thoughts about researching Evolution Points and instead shifted his gaze toward the battlefield.

It was a gruesome sight. The ground was soaked in blood.Countless severed limbs and mangled corpses lay scattered silently across the earth.

Haaa…Yu Zi Yu let out a long, slow breath, feeling a faint heaviness in his heart. The law of survival — the strong thrive and the weak perish — was the most primitive and cruel rule of nature.

And with the mutation of countless species, this rule would not weaken. It would only grow even more brutal, even more primitive.

Of course, one truth remained unchanged:

The last one standing gets to laugh.

Letting out a faint sigh, Yu Zi Yu forced down his moment of sentimentality. His roots began to stir, digging into the soil beneath him with practiced precision.

Looking again, it became clear that Yu Zi Yu was burying the severed limbs and mangled carcasses deep underground.

Only the corpses of the Giant Golden Eagle and the Mutant Wild Boar remained above the soil.

"They're yours."Yu Zi Yu gently nudged the returning Red Fox and eight Peregrine Falcons with his branches, signaling for them to begin.

As mutated wild beasts, the value of the Giant Golden Eagle and the Mutant Wild Boar was self-evident.Even as corpses, they were extremely precious.

They were the perfect rewards for the Red Fox and Peregrine Falcons, who had shown bravery and loyalty in protecting their master.

Of course, if the beasts failed to finish the corpses and they eventually rot, Yu Zi Yu would still benefit — their decay would nourish his roots.

In truth, the main reason Yu Zi Yu overturned the entire battlefield and buried the scattered remains was exactly this. From a certain perspective, these were the best fertilizers he could ask for — incredibly beneficial to him.

At the end of the day, a Willow Tree was still a tree.

However, one point was worth noting:Yu Zi Yu refused to bury any Human remains among these carcasses.

His human psychology from his previous life made it impossible for him to accept the idea of using Human bodies as nutrients. To him, that was no different from eating Humans.

The thought alone disgusted him to the core.

Therefore, if Humans were to die, it would be better for them to die far away from him — so far that he would never have to feel repulsed. Otherwise, he would be forced to do what he had just done…

In Yu Zi Yu's field of vision, beneath dozens of dangling branches, several creatures were tied up.The most conspicuous among them were the two girls. The others were wild beasts he had taken a liking to — either for their appearance or for their combat potential.

Anything he found promising was spared from being strangled to death.

As for the two young women, saving them had been purely impulsive.

He had imagined them being contaminated by the battlefield…Then unknowingly absorbed by him as fertilizer…

Ugh…Just the thought made him nauseous. So he had saved them without hesitation.

"But what should I do with them…?"Yu Zi Yu wondered aloud, his gaze becoming complicated as he looked at the two girls.

In his previous life, he had been a Human. In this life, he was a tree.

Although he had no desire to harm Humans, he still felt uneasy around them.

After all, Humans were extremely xenophobic.More importantly — they possessed the power to threaten him.

If news of his existence reached them while he still lacked the means to defend himself, it would spell his end.

Carpet bombing alone was something he could not withstand yet, let alone the countless other methods Humans possessed.

As for peacefully coexisting with them…Thinking this, Yu Zi Yu let out a self-mocking laugh.

If they deemed him harmless and somewhat ornamental, he might end up planted in a Human garden — a display for entertainment.

However, there was a far bigger problem.

The Life Essence flowing within him could accelerate the evolution of other species.

For that reason alone, Humans would never let him go.

When something's value surpassed common sense,self-interest ruled all judgment.

Haaa…Exhaling another deep breath, Yu Zi Yu fell into rare contemplation.

Letting them go? Absolutely impossible. He did not trust these two girls — and he trusted the Human race even less.

As for killing them… that's difficult…

He had never killed a Human before. He could slaughter wild beasts without hesitation, but that came from the instincts left over from his previous life.

Furthermore, these two girls were merely potential threats. Not enemies deserving death.

If he killed them, he would be branded as a tree that kills Humans — and if that news spread, a relentless pursuit would surely follow.

"Damn it, these two are such a headache…"After long hesitation, Yu Zi Yu couldn't help but vent.To kill or not to kill — the decision hung uncomfortably in the balance.

Considering the future consequences, it was no longer something he could answer easily.
