Chapter 16 - TRAPPED

Maya was quiet beside him, her eyes fixed on the road ahead. Wale knew she was scared, and he was too. But he was determined to keep her safe, no matter what.

As they drove, Wale's mind was racing. Who was the figure he had seen? What did they want? And how had they managed to vanish into thin air?

Wale's grip on the steering wheel tightened as he thought about the possibilities. He knew he had to get Maya to a safe place, somewhere where she would be protected.

He glanced over at Maya, and saw the fear in her eyes. He knew he had to be strong for her, to protect her from whatever danger was coming their way.

"We'll be safe, Maya," he said, his voice low and reassuring. "I promise you, we'll be safe."

Maya nodded, but Wale could see the doubt in her eyes. She didn't believe him, and he couldn't blame her.

As they drove, the city began to fade away, replaced by rolling hills and countryside. Wale knew they were getting close to their destination, a small village where they could lay low for a while.

He glanced in the rearview mirror, and his heart skipped a beat. A car was following them, its headlights flashing in the darkness.

Wale's instincts kicked in, and he accelerated, speeding down the country road. The car behind them followed, its speed increasing to match Wale's.

Maya saw the look on Wale's face, and her eyes widened in fear. "What's happening?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Wale's eyes were fixed on the road ahead. "We're being followed," he said, his voice grim. "Hold on, Maya. We're going to get out of this."

The car behind them was gaining on them, its headlights filling the interior of Wale's car. Wale knew he had to act fast, or they would be trapped.

He swerved off the road, onto a narrow dirt track. The car behind them followed, its tires kicking up dust and debris.

Wale's heart was racing as he drove down the dirt track, the car bouncing and jolling over the rough terrain. He knew they were running out of time, and he had to get Maya to safety.

He glanced over at Maya, and saw the fear in her eyes. He knew he had to be strong for her, to protect her from whatever danger was coming their way.

Suddenly, the car behind them swerved, its tires spinning out of control. Wale took advantage of the distraction, and accelerated, speeding away from the chaos.

As they drove, the sound of the other car's engine faded into the distance. Wale let out a sigh of relief, knowing they had escaped.

But as he glanced in the rearview mirror, he saw the car again, its headlights flashing in the darkness. Wale's heart sank, knowing they were not out of danger yet.

He gapped the accelerator, speeding down the dirt track, the car bouncing and jolling over the rough terrain. Maya's eyes were wide with fear, her hands grasping the seat tightly.

"What is it?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Wale's eyes were fixed on the road ahead. "They're still following us," he said, his voice grim.

Maya turned to look out the back window, her eyes scanning the darkness. "What do they want?" she asked, her voice trembling.

Wale's grip on the steering wheel tightened. "I don't know, but we're going to get out of this," he said, his voice firm.

The car behind them was gaining on them, its headlights filling the interior of Wale's car. Wale knew he had to act fast, or they would be trapped.

He swerved off the dirt track, onto a narrow footpath. The car behind them followed, its tires kicking up dust and debris.

Wale's heart was racing as he drove down the footpath, the car bouncing and jolling over the rough terrain. He knew they were running out of time, and he had to get Maya to safety.

He spotted a small cluster of trees up ahead, and he swerved towards them, the car bouncing and jolling over the rough terrain.

As they reached the trees, Wale slammed on the brakes, the car skidding to a stop. He grabbed Maya's hand, and they jumped out of the car, running into the darkness.

The car behind them stopped, its headlights illuminating the trees. Wale and Maya ran, their feet pounding the ground, their hearts racing with fear.

They ran for what felt like hours, the darkness closing in around them. Wale knew they couldn't keep running, they had to find a place to hide.

He spotted a small cave up ahead, and he pulled Maya towards it, their feet pounding the ground.

As they reached the cave, Wale pushed Maya inside, following close behind. They huddled together, their hearts racing with fear.

The car outside stopped, its headlights illuminating the cave. Wale and Maya held their breath, waiting for what felt like an eternity.

And then, the car drove away, its headlights disappearing into the darkness.

Wale let out a sigh of relief, knowing they had escaped. But as he looked at Maya, he saw the fear in her eyes.

"We're not safe yet," he said, his voice low and urgent. "We have to keep moving."

Maya nodded, her eyes wide with fear. Wale took her hand, and they set off into the darkness, their hearts racing with uncertainty.

As they walked, the darkness seemed to close in around them. Wale knew they had to find a way out, or they would be trapped forever.

He spotted a faint light in the distance, and he pulled Maya towards it, their feet pounding the ground.

As they got closer, Wale saw that it was a small road, its surface rough and uneven.

Wale's heart leapt with hope, knowing they had found a way out.

But as they reached the road, Wale saw something that made his heart skip a beat.

A figure, standing in the shadows, watching them.

Wale's instincts kicked in, and he pushed Maya behind him, shielding her from view.

"Who's there?" he called out, his voice firm and commanding.

The figure didn't move, didn't respond. But Wale knew he had seen something.

Someone was watching them, waiting for them.

And then, just as suddenly as he had appeared, the figure vanished into thin air.

Wale's heart was racing as he turned to Maya. "Get behind me," he said, his voice low and urgent.

Maya nodded, her eyes wide with fear. Wale took her hand, and they set off into the darkness, their hearts racing with uncertainty.

As they walked, Wale knew they were not out of danger yet. They had to find a way to escape, to get out of the village before it was too late.

He glanced over his shoulder, and saw the figure again, its eyes fixed on them.

Wale's heart sank, knowing they were trapped.

Suddenly, the figure moved, its hand reaching out towards them.

Wale's heart was racing as he pushed Maya away, trying to protect her.

But it was too late.

The figure's hand closed around Wale's wrist, holding him in place.

Wale's eyes locked with the figure's, and he saw something there that made his blood run cold.

A smile, spreading across the figure's face.

And then, everything went black.
