The day moved by fast. Before Eli knew it his last class of the day came to an end.
He packed up his backpack. Slinged it over one shoulder and followed the stream of students filing out outside. Eli blended into the crowd in his own thoughts.
On his way out of the classroom, Marcus jogged over to catch up with him.
"Heading home?" Marcus asked breathlessly.
"Want to walk together?"
Eli nodded. "Sure."
They exited the building together, the afternoon wind brushing through Eli's hair. It carried the faint metallic scent of the city.
The school gates were crowded as usual. Everyone is in a rush to go home or just be out of the school compound.
Marcus was rambling beside him, something about PE and assignments, when Eli felt a stare on him.
He didn't look immediately but the stare was too familiar and intense for him to ignore. He turned his head slightly, scanning the side.
