Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: Girl Chi-Chi

Bulma cupped her hands like a megaphone and shouted at the sky,

"Flying Nimbus!"

In an instant, the Nimbus appeared and dove down in front of her.

Watching Bulma with the Nimbus,

Goku spaced out for a heartbeat.

He'd never imagined a scene like this—

Bulma riding the Nimbus.

A moment later, Bulma leapt on,

turning into a streak of gold as she flew west.

Winter training in the cold, summer training in the heat—

Goku couldn't let his practice slip.

He jogged on foot with weights,

following Bulma's Nimbus across mountains and desert

straight toward Frypan Mountain.

Three days later…

The air grew hotter and hotter.

Bulma realized that even on foot,

Goku was fast enough.

They were close to their next destination: Frypan Mountain.

Which meant… they were about to meet Chi-Chi.

Bulma thought, *I need to warn him first.

I already reincarnated and I'm sticking tight to Goku.

If he still promises Chi-Chi marriage somehow…

I might as well go head-butt tofu.*

So she lowered the Nimbus, drifting closer to Goku.

"Hey, Goku! You hungry?"

Goku slowed his jog and looked up.

"A bit. Are we eating?"

Bulma said, "Our house was blown up, and we wasted a lot of food.

I've only got a little left in capsules. It won't even cover one meal for you.

Here's what I'm thinking:

It's almost dark. Let's stop here tonight.

I haven't bathed in three days. I'm itchy all over.

Let's find a town, rest,

eat a proper meal and restock supplies.

Then we can wash up, cool down, and continue tomorrow.

Sound good?"

Goku looked into the distance.

Frypan Mountain still wasn't in sight.

But thinking about the blazing castle and sea of fire,

Goku had already planned a solution.

He probably didn't need to find Master Roshi at all.

With his current strength,

a Kamehameha should be enough to extinguish the fire.

If he didn't need Roshi,

then there was no need for special prep.

Full stomach, full energy, and they could just do it when they got there.

Goku nodded.

"Okay. Let's rest a day.

We'll eat well, then go.

By the way, do you know where the nearest town is?"

Bulma shook her head.

"Nope.

But I have an idea.

Get on. We'll search faster from the Nimbus!"

"Right. Let's find one together."

Goku stored his weights in a capsule, jumped on the Nimbus,

and searched with Bulma.

The sun sank toward the horizon,

painting the sky with blazing orange clouds.

Golden light washed over the desert,

turning the sand dunes and clouds into gold.

Bulma looked at the sky, excited.

"Goku, look! Fire clouds! So beautiful!"

"Yeah… beautiful…

Bulma, let's hurry and find a town.

Tell the Nimbus to go faster.

If it gets dark and we still haven't found one,

we'll have to sleep in the desert again."

To Goku, the sunset wasn't that interesting.

His answer was almost perfunctory.

Bulma sighed inwardly.

Such a gorgeous view and he didn't care at all.

But that was Goku.

The guy had zero aesthetic sense.

Bulma nodded and pointed ahead.

"Nimbus, speed up!"

The Nimbus shot forward.

The wind finally blew away the last bit of heat clinging to them.

Suddenly, a sharp scream tore through the air.

They looked down toward the cry.

Not far away, a huge dinosaur was chasing a cute little girl.

The girl's outfit was odd—

like a swimsuit,

and she wore a strange helmet with a blade mounted on top,

almost like Ultraseven.

Bulma's pupils shrank.

She knew who that was right away.

Near Frypan Mountain, cute little girl,

and that familiar face—

it had to be Chi-Chi, the Ox-King's daughter.

At that moment, the dinosaur roared

and snapped its jaws at Chi-Chi.

Chi-Chi yelped, slapped a hand over her butt in panic,

and sprinted faster, barely dodging the bite.

But the dinosaur kept charging.

In Bulma's eyes,

if nothing changed, the next bite would kill Chi-Chi.

She didn't hesitate. She shouted at Goku to save her.

Meanwhile, Goku had recognized Chi-Chi too—

but he also knew she wasn't weak.

She was the Ox-King's daughter.

If she pressed the switch on her helmet,

the blade would slice the dinosaur in half.

Honestly, Goku was looking forward to seeing that move.

But just as he waited for her to strike,

Bulma yelled first,

"Goku, save her!"

Goku froze.

Maybe Chi-Chi was being chased too tightly to react.

So he immediately pulled out the Power Pole,

leapt off the Nimbus, and shouted:

"Power Pole—extend!"

The staff shot out and swung in a wide arc.

With a violent gust,

it smashed into the dinosaur's head.

The head exploded.

The massive body crashed to the ground.

Goku flipped and landed steadily in front of Chi-Chi.

"Are you okay?"

Seeing the dinosaur get one-shot,

Bulma rode down quickly on the Nimbus and rushed over.

Chi-Chi stopped running, staring at Goku and Bulma curiously,

then fixed her gaze on Goku.

Her little face turned bright red.

Hands clasped to her cheeks shyly, she said,

"That was so dangerous… thank you for saving me.

But I don't have anything to repay you with right now…

So how about this—when I grow up, I'll marry you and be your bride…"

While Chi-Chi was still squirming shyly,

Bulma jumped off the Nimbus.

"No!"
