Chapter 24 - Chapter 24 — Childhood Sweethearts

Back when Mai and Shu had been driving a robot to chase Nimbus—

just as they were about to catch up, Nimbus suddenly accelerated.

It vanished from sight.

After a stubborn pursuit, their robot ran out of power.

They trudged back to Pilaf's castle on foot.

By the time they returned, dawn had broken.

Pilaf chewed them out for missing the balls again.

Meanwhile, after Goku and Bulma left, the Ox-King got nagged by Chi-Chi to go propose.

With a sigh, he found a plane.

Loaded up with gifts and bags, he brought Chi-Chi to Mount Paozu to see Grandpa Gohan and propose marriage for Chi-Chi and Goku.

But when they reached Gohan's house, Grandpa wasn't home.

They opened the door and stepped inside.

No dust. He'd been gone only two or three days.

Ox-King frowned. "What's going on?

My senior brother doesn't usually go anywhere.

Is he… avoiding me?"

He scratched his head.

Seeing the spotless furniture, Ox-King's face hardened.

He muttered, "Could my senior brother think my daughter looks like me—

big, ugly, and scary—

so he's hiding?

I told him she takes after her mother! She's cute!

Oh… right. I never actually told him that."

Chi-Chi blinked her big eyes.

"Dad, when Goku stayed with us, he said Turtle Hermit's island isn't far from Mount Paozu—just across the sea.

Do you think Grandpa Gohan went to visit Master Roshi?

If so, why don't we go visit too?"

"Visit Master Roshi…?"

Ox-King thought for a moment.

"Alright. I've forgotten how many years it's been since I saw Master.

Now that we know where he lives, we can't not go."

So he turned the plane toward Kame House.

With the address, they arrived quickly.

Master Roshi stared at Chi-Chi in wonder.

"Ox-King! Your daughter doesn't look anything like you."

Ox-King beamed respectfully. "Yes, Master. She looks like her mother.

Isn't she adorable?"

Roshi nodded, muttering quietly, "She is cute.

But she's still too small. No figure at all.

Not even close to that blue-haired girl Goku was with."

Ox-King blinked. "Master… what did you say?"

Roshi waved it off. "Nothing, nothing.

Since you're looking for someone, maybe you can help me find someone too?"

Ox-King bowed deeper. "It would be my honor!

Please tell me who you want."

But Chi-Chi got a little annoyed and spoke bluntly.

"Hey, Master Roshi, we haven't even found Grandpa Gohan yet,

and you want us to help you find someone?

We young people are busy, you know."

Roshi raised an eyebrow.

"Well now. Tiny thing, but you've got a temper."

Ox-King quickly stopped her.

"Chi-Chi, this is my master. Be polite!"

Then he asked Roshi again respectfully, "Master, who should we find?"

Roshi stroked his beard.

"Gohan asked me to take Goku as a disciple.

But Gohan went to look for Dragon Balls, and I don't know where they are.

When Goku finishes finding them, please help me locate him and bring him here to train.

Also, seeing you today—

especially Chi-Chi—

I've got a new idea.

Chi-Chi is the same age as Goku.

If I'm teaching students, one is teaching, two is teaching.

So once you find Goku, bring him here—

and let Chi-Chi train here for a while too. How about it?"

Chi-Chi's eyes lit up.

"That would be amazing! Training with Goku!

Dad, let's go find him!"

Ox-King was overjoyed.

"Ah, Chi-Chi, you're so lucky.

Master Roshi almost never takes disciples!

Hurry and bow to him!"

Chi-Chi hurriedly knelt and kowtowed.

"Chi-Chi greets Master Roshi."

Roshi chuckled. "Alright, alright. Enough of that.

When you and Goku join my school, there'll be a test anyway."

Chi-Chi blinked excitedly.

Soon she and Ox-King left Kame House.

"Dad, where do you think Goku is?"

Ox-King muttered, "No idea.

But they're searching for Dragon Balls, so they can't be wandering randomly.

There should be clues.

And Goku's tail makes him stand out, plus they've got Nimbus.

Ask around and we should find them."

Chi-Chi nodded. "Yeah!

Dad, let's hurry. I can't wait to train under Master Roshi with Goku!"

Ox-King teased, "Not going to propose to Grandpa Gohan first?"

Chi-Chi's face went red.

"The books say childhood sweethearts are stronger than parent-arranged marriages.

If I spend some time with Goku, he'll definitely fall in love with me…"

She buried her burning face.

Ox-King laughed.

"You're right. My daughter is adorable.

If you two spend time together, Goku will definitely fall for you.

But there's a strong competitor around him—Bulma.

So if you want Goku to like you more,

you need to be extra gentle with him when you're together."

"Mm. I know!"
