More than a year ago, after her father disappeared for unknown reasons likely related to the Honkai, Kiana had embarked on a journey to find him and investigate the Honkai.
To be honest, she had found nothing. She hadn't found her father, and her investigation into the Honkai had yielded no results. She hadn't even seen a Honkai Beast or a zombie since then. It was so strange; when she was living with her father, he could always find the Honkai with ease. Could it be that she and her father had already eliminated all of it?
For some time now, although she had a goal, Kiana had really just been wandering around.
Thanks to the bank card her father had left her, Kiana had no problem sustaining her livelihood. He had also told her that if she ever ran into trouble, she should go to the Far East and find someone named "De-something." She was supposedly her aunt, but unfortunately, Kiana had forgotten her aunt's name. Luckily, she still remembered the name "Far East," which was how she ended up in Nagazora City.
The beginning of her journey was quite comfortable. With her father's bank card, Kiana had lived a carefree life without worrying about food or drink. However, during the long journey from Europe to Nagazora City, Kiana had unfortunately lost the card. Maybe she dropped it at the airport in Europe, maybe on the plane, or maybe after she arrived in Nagazora. Kiana wasn't sure. She just grumbled a bit about her father only giving her one bank card. Couldn't he have given her a few more? Dad was so stingy.
After her cash ran out, Kiana had to figure out how to get a replacement card and put it into practice. But first she went to the wrong bank, and then she discovered that replacing the card required all sorts of identity documents. It was her father's bank card; how was she supposed to have his ID? Now, Kiana had been starving for a day and still hadn't found her Aunt De-something.
She had finally found an "abandoned" building, laid down on a hard bedframe for a little while, eaten a single piece of peanut brittle that did nothing to fill her stomach, and was now saddled with a hundred-million-dollar debt and apparently owed someone a relationship. Kiana's head was spinning.
"Impossible! How can it be that much!"
Kiana's intuition told her that Evan was talking nonsense, but her intellect was telling her that his long-winded explanation made a lot of sense. Caught in this dilemma, Kiana kept refuting him, but her confidence had already dwindled significantly.
There was no way she could repay one hundred million, not even if she hadn't lost the bank card. But... if it was a relationship—
"If you can give me delicious food every day, I might consider marrying you."
Kiana's witty, grandiose offer made Evan, who had been watching the show with great interest, sigh. He had really been overthinking things if he thought he could tease Kiana.
Giving up on pointing out the wording and logical fallacies in her statement, Evan looked at Kiana, who, despite appearing full of energy since he arrived, was actually very tired and, more importantly, very hungry.
"Come with me," he said.
"Oh, okay."
After a moment's hesitation, Kiana realized he was going to take her to get food and nodded eagerly, following behind him.
But she found they weren't heading upstairs in the dormitory, but outside. Kiana was very confused.
"Didn't you say you had food in your dorm?"
"I do, but it doesn't taste very good. I'm taking you to a restaurant."
Hearing this, the girl felt an inexhaustible strength surge through her body. No matter how far the restaurant was, she would follow without hesitation.
Evan then took Kiana to the same restaurant he often went to with Mei, because it was indeed good quality for a good price, and the owner was very friendly.
But in the owner's eyes at this moment, Evan's image was not so good.
This guy actually brought another girl here. With just one look, the owner determined that Kiana was not a relative of Evan's either. This meant that Evan had either dumped Mei for someone new, or he was two-timing them.
Although, given the current male population, especially the number of young men, two-timing or even having a large harem was not entirely unjustifiable, and with Evan's looks and personality, many girls would probably be willing to throw themselves at him, the owner suspected he was building his harem in secret. She could not turn a blind eye to such sneaky behavior!
So, after Evan asked Kiana what she wanted and ordered two set meals, the owner showed an apologetic smile.
"I'm so sorry, but we've run out of small change for today. Do you happen to have the exact cash for these two meals?"
"Uh... no."
"In that case, while I'm preparing your meals, could I trouble you to go to a nearby shop and get some change?"
Evan was puzzled by the owner's maneuver. Setting aside how unprepared it was for a restaurant to run out of change, asking a customer to go get change from another shop was just not normal, right? Shouldn't the underprepared owner figure that out herself?
However, having frequented this place many times, Evan wasn't going to get upset over such a small matter. He just assumed the owner was being careless, nodded, and told Kiana to sit and rest while he went out.
After confirming Evan was out of sight, the owner stealthily approached Kiana and whispered.
"Little girl, who are you to him? His girlfriend?"
Kiana was starving and waiting for her food. But instead of cooking, this owner was asking her all sorts of nosy questions. Kiana had originally intended to deny it, but her craving for delicious food seemed to have boosted her intelligence. After a moment's thought, she realized that a denial would only lead to more questions and explanations, further delaying her meal. So, she gave a firm "yes."
"Mm-hm, yes."
"Then did you know he already has a girlfriend?"
The owner disappointed Kiana. Even after her affirmative answer, the owner kept prying. Seeing that she had no intention of starting on her meal, Kiana puffed out her cheeks in frustration.
"Yes, yes, I know! I don't care about that stuff! Can you please just go and make my food?"
Seeing Kiana's dissatisfaction, the owner stopped pestering her, apologized, and went to the back kitchen.
