"A human delegation?" Kaelan released Anya's arm, his fury momentarily replaced by political calculation. "That's impossible. They shouldn't know she's missing yet."
"They claim they have a contract with her firm," Zara reported, her gaze sharp on Anya. "They are threatening to call federal authorities."
Anya felt a surge of hope. Her network was working. "My partners know something is wrong. They won't stop until they find me."
Kaelan swore, a low, guttural sound. He snatched Anya's hand and pulled her behind the massive desk, shielding her from the door.
"You will not speak," he commanded, his breath hot against her ear, the raw assertion of his power making the bond ache. "I will handle this."
The door opened again, revealing three suited human men. They saw the destroyed outer security door and the towering, visibly dangerous Alpha-Heir standing in a blood-stained shirt.
The lead man, a lawyer, spoke stiffly. "We are here for Ms. Rylan. We have documented proof of kidnapping."
Kaelan stepped out, placing himself completely between Anya and the humans. He looked like a feral god. His voice was cold, lethal.
"Anya Rylan is no longer affiliated with Ghost Security," Kaelan stated, his Authority radiating. "She is under contract with the Eastern Pack. She is my Mate. You are now trespassing on sovereign territory."
