Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: Abandon his wife

It is not like grandfather Brook would do something bad to her for rejecting his proposal to marry Lucas but she thought to compensate him for everything he had done.

Since it was still early hour to afternoon time, Lucas took her back to the Brook mansion and immediately left for work after he confirmed she had entered the house.

Unlike normal love marriages, where the newlyweds would go out and celebrate with friends, this newlywed went their separate ways after signing the marriage agreements.

April gets lost in thought again as she wanders through the grand hall of Brook mansion. She isn't expecting Lucas to love or cherish her in the marriage, just that the uncertainties and unpredictables were higher. Wondering what her life would be like as Lucas's wife.

Moments later, she regained her senses and immediately strolled towards grandfather Brook's study.

"April? You're back! Congratulations!" Grandfather Brook laughed heartily.

"Thank you grandfather. I wanted to give this to you before I went inside." April handed him the marriage certificate.

"That's good!" He smiled, staring at the certificate and their signatures on it.

"Where's Lucas?"

"He- he left for work immediately to address urgent issues." April lowered her head.

"Insolent! How could he abandon his own wife after getting married? Who does that?" Grandfather Brook flared up in anger and quickly reached for his phone dialing Lucas's number.

"April, don't worry, you can retire to your rooms now to rest."

"Thank you grandfather."

With that, April gently strolled into her room only to see it empty. None of her things were found in the room.

Her eyes widened as she continued to ponder on what happened to her belongings, one of the housemaids knocked and came in informing her about her things being moved to Lucas's room on grandfather Brook's orders.

Indeed, she did see all of her belongings in Lucas's large bedroom including her school materials and design catalogs.

Swiftly, she changed into a comfortable dress as she continued working on her school project and that way she decided not to overthink anything and just focus.

.

Lucas on the other hand couldn't focus at work. Even after grandfather Brook called to scold him, everything became worse, his cold stare and demeanor darkened, putting his employees in a tight spot as they thought they were already walking on thin lines.

Any slight mistake would immediately cost them their jobs.

Later at night when he came back, he was greeted by Lynn as usual but he walked past her like he saw nothing. Lynn didn't feel bad and instead gave an evil smile after Lucas gave her cold shoulder.

By the time he entered and opened the door to the room he met April sniffling and wiping her tears with her focus still on the design she was sketching on the tablet.

"Do you already regret your decision?" He asked while pulling off his suit jacket as he strolled into the walk-in closet.

April immediately stopped sniffling and raised her head after she heard what he said. Her eyes were already a little red.

She knew he was cold to her but not this level of coldness from him.

"At least it's not too late to reconsider, that would save you a lot of tears" He came out of the closet and sat down by the edge of the bed.

"Gra- grandfather wants us to come together for dinner later" April said in a hoarse voice as she wiped off her tears.

She waited for replies but Lucas instead stood up and went to the bathroom.

Immediately she heard the door shut, she clenched her chest and took a deep breath. Without wasting much time, she grabbed the face wipes from the vanity table and started cleansing her face.

They'd be going downstairs for dinner soon and of course she wouldn't let anyone notice she had cried.

Not too long, Lucas came out of the bathroom in a casual outfit as they both made their way to the dining table.

April had her head lowered the whole time as she began picking on her food slowly.

Olivia was already bustling with smiles the same with Grandfather Brook as they both stared at the newlyweds. Judith didn't know what happened but the atmosphere seems different and off.

Given that grandfather Brook earlier requested Olivia to take over the meals for dinner despite her position as the madam.

When Judith made mention of it to Lynn, they both discussed and counted it as nothing special but what she was seeing right now is more than normal dinner because they made special dishes looking like a celebration.

As they all began to eat, Judith couldn't resist the curiosity to ask.

"Father! Are we celebrating something special tonight? The dishes are looking a bit too much for just dinner. Or did someone overstep their boundaries." Judith chuckled, referring to Olivia.

"Unfortunately, someone doesn't even know her son got married earlier today." Olivia revealed also chuckling.

Judith felt thunder struck her head as she immediately stop eating. Lynn was also shocked as her eyes widened wondering who got married.

"You- you– you— repeat what you said! Repeat what you said!" Judith screamed loudly with her eyes widened waiting for answers.

"You don't understand?" Olivia chuckled hard. "Fine! I'll explain. Lucas and April got married earlier in the morning, tell me, does it not call for a big celebration?" chuckled again before having her sit to continue eating.

"Wh- wha- what did you say?" Judith stuttered as her arms dropped slowly. "What do you mean my son got married in the morning? Without my awareness? Are you all crazy!" Judith screamed loudly not minding grandfather Brook's presence as an elder.

"Judith! Mind your language! How dare you talk to my father that way!" Brandon also screamed after he clattered the cutlery.
