Chapter 7 - Day and Night

This was one of the darkest nights for all the people who faced the deaths. The military had taken action, but it wasn't able to save much people. The harm was already done. The casualties were catastrophic. In a single night almost 20,000-35,000 people were estimated to be dead. Not so much.

Leaders hid in their safe bunkers, the military had managed to save many people. Many military officers were dead.

....

Before sunrise.

The west was in a turmoil, they weren't able to comprehend all the things that were happening in this world. Was this the end of the world? The disappearance of the moon, appearance of monsters, it looked straight of a fantasy novel.

Since the moon had disappeared, there were a lot of scientific drawbacks happening in the background. Rachael the head of ISO publicly gave the statement that this disappearance isn't scientifically possible. How could such a planetary mass disappear, just like that.

Even most reputed scientist weren't able to draw up a conclusion. These announcements were made before the appearance of the monsters.

A lot of discussions were going on in popular websites, were they aliens?were they some kind of powered beings? Will this last forever? Nobody had an answer for it. All they could do was pray to God that they will be safe.

These monsters also had the ability to go through opaque objects, but they weren't successful every single time, people didn't know why?

The deaths were heart wrenching , will you be happy if you were eaten alive? Not a peaceful death or a minute long pain. A death which was tormenting and painful. You cannot fight them.

Those monsters looked like cursed beings, weird appearance and they created an eerie atmosphere.

The night felt too long. People awaited for the night to end. Praying to the God in churches, in their homes. Holding onto any kind of weapons they could find. Government did take actions or rather the military. When there was threat to the world, when people need them the most the so called political leaders ran into their ratholes, hiding themselves from their world.

Who could blame them? To survive, you have to be selfish, thinking about you and just your family, that would be the normal reaction of a person, unless he/she is some kind of hero. There were no heroes in this era, there were nobody who would sacrifice themselves to save a stranger.

The black was painted over the sky, the starlight was nowhere near enough to give the radiance of the moonlight or rather there was no such satellite now that could reflect the sunlight even in the night.

It was just two minutes more, the sun would rise up.

The hue of the dark sky started to change, going from black to slightly blue then to orange sky. People for the first time felt the sunrise was the most majestic thing they have seen in their life.

It's surprising how a single night spent in darkness could change a human perspective on perceiving the things. Ofcourse most of them were in their home with a light bulb. But those who were outside and were somehow manage to survive the night felt how beautiful the sun was.

Military office were tired constantly shooting at those monsters, they weren't guaranteed of a hundred percent hit rate. As the sun rays fell on the monsters, they started to disappear like a mist.

The people who were fighting them were surprised and also sighed a breath of relief, some fell on their knees crying. Some helped others get up on their knees, while some were looking for a place to rest.

Strangely, even the montsrers under the shade or underground, started to disappear. There were announcements from the government too, about people's welfare and the 'trying to figure out the problem' topic without thinking about the solution first.

Sometimes, humans become stupid at the most useful time. There were also many people who were able to use this strange and mysterious power, even some people in the military. Naturally, the government and scientists took him as study subjects, atleast let them rest, couldn't they?

People were exhausted.

They were scared too, thinking about the future.

Will the monsters come back again?

People didn't know. They now were scared of the dark, the difference is when people were kids they were scared to look under the bed now they would be scared to step out of the bed.

People were happy the night ended but they were sad due to all the casualties. So many people had died. So many faced injury, some lost their eyesight by the same monsters who had a limit of that.

But it wouldn't be sunshine for all of them, how can that be?

.....

In the East, the sun had slowly set down.

The darkness was now covering the east bit by bit. Suraj who had heard all the things that were happening in the west was scared, would it happen here too? He wasn't sure.

He had locked himself up in his old cheap rented house. His phone was now almost dead, he had forgot to charge since he was so drunk yesterday. And at the morning he was busy all day wrapping his head around the things.

He held a hatchet in his hand as he was squat sitting on his worn out couch, the wall had a photo of his mom. She didn't resemble him or rather he didn't resemble her.

He was scared and thus was shivering. He didn't know what would happen to him, would he die if the same thing happened to him. He didn't know, all he could do was lock himself up and safeguard himself. He didn't really believe in God but he was not an atheist either.

The slow dripping tap on his kitchen sink, made him tense up even further. Even small sounds made him falter. Besides that he had headache since the morning, no matter what medications he took, it was still there. Was it from hungover? Probably.

'Oh, God if you are there somewhere, please protect me'

It was unexpected him for to pray God, but when a life threatening situation occurs and you have noone to turn to. Who would you turn to? It would be God ofcourse. Whether the God exists or not is a secondary topic, but you need someone whom you could believe in.
