Chapter 31 - America's Trio

What made me so amazing back then? I have to find the root, the cause of everything.

"Sakura."

My name echoed through the deep depths of my mind. It was a young voice, yet there was nothing childish about this voice. It was intimidating to say the very least.

"Sakura."

Suddenly I found myself in the past. The pressure immediately pushed my body forward.

"Sakura."

I turned my head to see a younger Kanade, pointing down at the ball. His eyes stared directly at the ball, not acknowledging anything else. He rushed towards me and the cold embrace of death strangled my heart, causing me to pass to him. He immediately passed it to Sol, who launched the ball at the speed of light into the goal. Ending the game 5-0.

"How mediocre."

"What are you talking about?"

He walked up to me and pointed at the ground.

"Why did you pass it?"

"Because it was the best choice."

"It wasn't, you just couldn't stand being within the pressure of being the best."

"Dude, we were winning by four points. That play wasn't even necessary."

"Tch. That's exactly why your father failed as a player. All of those words that limit your desire, "Not needed." "Not necessary.""

He walked up to me and looked up to me, but his aura looked down upon me.

"I've finally realized it, your originality. You destroy players and rebuild them in order to prove your superiority. When there's nobody below you, you just blend into the background. How weak and basic, that's why you won't amount to anything Sakura. We have so many similarities but that's where we differ. You can't win alone, yet you still delude yourself into believing you can. Sakura by yourself, you are mediocre."

I stepped back, but he grabbed my collar and pulled me closer. I stared into his empty eyes and tried to make him let go. Sol walked up and tapped on Kanade's back.

"Kanade, just let him be mediocre. We all know that the monster trio is only great because of its midfielders."

Kanade moved his eyes to look at him, he didn't have a sense of emotion in his eyes. It was pure darkness in his eyes. Then he looked back at me.

"You should've become a midfielder instead of a striker."

He let go of me and walked away with Sol.

So that's my originality, that's who I am.

I walked to class, every one of Kanade's words attacking my confidence. I sat at my desk, and everybody in the class was working on their school project. Yoichi slammed into me and started dancing, with not even 1% of our project finished.

"Oh my gosh. We're gonna fail."

Yoichi started lightly punching my shoulder, while jumping up and down. As I placed my feet on my desk and leaned back into my chair.

"You can't fail if you don't see it as a failure, Bunny!"

We later received an F for that project.

Sora worked on her school project, growing more and more frustrated by the second. Eventually she got up and asked the teacher to work alone. But the teacher refused and made Sora go back to working with her group. Sora sat down and asked her group if they could hurry up. Her group looked at her, the envious looks were like bullets piercing her skin. She stuttered and tried to explain why she believed they should hurry up but they refused. They told her to do it herself if she thinks she's better than them. But Sora stands her ground and refuses to do everybody's work. Her group still made her do it alone but at least she stood on business for a second.

Sora grew lonely, the envious stares constantly stabbing her. Why was she always the most talented in the room? Why did they hate her so much? Why does she have to carry this burden? If she's gonna do the work alone every time she might as well do it alone, right?

She finally cracked and yelled at her partners to do the work but they slapped her. I covered my mouth and verbally said.

"Oo"

She fell to the ground and her group mate yelled at her.

"Get out of my face bitch!"

After the crack in her facade of being the perfect number 1 student. Nobody liked her for months, maybe even years. She was hated for so long she couldn't even remember when she wasn't hated. She was so afraid she didn't even go outside unless it was to go to school. As freshman year started she walked in afraid. She walked into the classroom expecting to be the first one in the classroom as usual, but she was quickly proven wrong.
