Chapter 15 — Shit Hit the Fan Early in the Morning

The next morning, Razan woke up on the couch with Loona lying on his chest, her warm breath brushing lightly against his skin. His mind took a moment to catch up, still foggy from sleep, until the memories of the previous night returned. They had watched a movie together, arguing over which one to pick, and eventually ended up passing out right there on the couch. It wasn't a planned moment… just one of those rare peaceful nights.

Looking down at her, Razan thought to himself,

She looks so damn cute like this… with that grayish-white hair all messy and these droopy wolf ears.

But then he added, with a mental sigh:

Too bad the personality didn't come matching the appearance.

He knew better than anyone that Loona being calm was a temporary miracle. The girl was a walking storm—loud, impulsive, stubborn and extremely explosive when irritated.

Still, something about seeing her sleeping like that softened him.

He gently nudged her shoulder.

"Loona, go take your shower. I'll make breakfast for us."

Loona stretched slowly, her tail flicking once as she rubbed her eyes.

"Is it morning already…?" she mumbled, sounding half-dead.

Razan smiled faintly, amused at how harmless she seemed when waking up.

But before he could say another word—

BOOOOM!

An explosion rocked the entire house, the floor trembling beneath them as dust fell from the ceiling. Razan's instincts kicked in instantly. He wrapped one arm around Loona and shifted into his half-dragon form without hesitation. Scales crawled across his skin, his muscles tightened, and his senses sharpened in a heartbeat.

He rushed to the window and scanned the distance with his enhanced vision. What he saw made his stomach drop.

Far away, cutting through the city as if it were an open field…

Adam.

Calm. Smiling. Throwing spears of light casually—almost lazily—while demons disintegrated wherever his attacks landed.

Razan exhaled sharply.

"Looks like the damn Annual Extermination started… and we had the bad luck of being right in the middle of it."

Loona instantly tensed, fully awake now.

"And now? What do we do?!"

Razan watched another spear of light pierce through several demons at once, Adam laughing as if this were some fun morning activity.

"We're going with the plan we made in case this happened," Razan said.

"That plan about grabbing all our money, getting the hell out of here, and buying another place later?" Loona asked.

"That exact one. You can teleport now—even if it's not as far as I can—so you take all our money to the abandoned factory where we killed that spider. We wait there until this crap ends."

Loona nodded, frustration mixing with urgency.

"Fine. I'll go grab the money."

As she rushed off, Razan inhaled deeply, trying to calm his racing heart. The air outside was filled with smoke, screams, and the distant crackling of divine light. This was exactly why he hated extermination days: the entire world became a playground of slaughter.

Meanwhile, up in the sky, Adam continued firing spears of light at any demon who tried to escape. The angel Lute, flying beside him with folded arms, spoke with an annoyed tone:

"Sir, killing them one by one like this will take too long."

Adam clicked his tongue.

"Understood. And I'm already tired of this filthy air. I've had my fun. Let's end this boring little game right now."

Then, raising one hand toward the heavens, he gathered divine energy until it formed a massive, blindingly radiant gigantic spear of light. The beam was so intense that Razan, even from kilometers away, felt the air heating.

Adam hurled it downward.

Down below, Razan and Loona had everything ready. The portal Loona created shimmered beside them, swirling with reddish energy. The money had already been sent through. All they needed was to walk in.

But Razan suddenly froze.

He felt it — a wave of divine pressure so overwhelming that his scales tightened by reflex. He looked up and saw Adam's giant spear falling, lighting up the clouds like a second sun.

Loona followed his gaze.

"Oh hell no! We better leave NOW before that thing hits!"

Razan was seconds away from agreeing when—

"Sweetie, I promise… Mommy's getting you out of here, okay? Nothing's going to happen!"

The voice was trembling, desperate.

Razan turned his head and saw a mother trying to run while carrying her small daughter, both terrified, both trapped in the open.

He clicked his tongue and muttered:

"It's times like these that I really hate not being a bastard…"

Without another thought, Razan inhaled deeply and aimed at the sky. Dark energy and draconic power surged inside him like a storm.

"Black Dragon King's Roar!"

A massive beam of darkness erupted from his mouth, meeting the gigantic spear of divine light mid-air. The collision shook the entire landscape. The explosion sent shockwaves across the area, blowing away debris, cracking the ground, and momentarily clearing the smoky sky.

Up above, Adam — who had already turned his back to leave — stopped and whipped his head around.

"What the hell is that now?!"

Lute pointed downward.

"Sir, look down there!"

Adam narrowed his eyes and finally spotted Razan standing tall in his half-dragon form, scales glowing with leftover energy, wings half-unfurled, staring at him with a cocky smile as if challenging the heavens themselves.

Razan then turned to Loona.

"Loona, while I fight him, you teleport those kids out of the battlefield. After that, give me the signal so I can retreat. I can handle fighting this idiot now… but I still can't beat him."

Loona opened her mouth, ready to yell at him — because of course he would pull stupid hero crap in the middle of a divine extermination. They could escape safely. They had no obligation to save anyone, much less strangers who didn't even know they existed.

But before she spoke, the truth struck her.

This idiot always risked himself…

always threw himself into danger…

always stepped forward first…

Just so she wouldn't get hurt.

He didn't need a reason.

He didn't need a reward.

He just did it because that was who he was.

Razan noticed the conflict in her eyes and said softly:

"I'm counting on you."

Loona huffed, forcing her usual irritated tone even though her tail betrayed her worry.

"Alright… but hurry up. I'm waiting."

Razan grinned.

"Don't worry. I'll be right back."

With that, he kicked off the ground and shot upward toward Adam, wings beating hard, the air ripping around him as he prepared for a fight he knew he couldn't win — but one he couldn't walk away from either.
