Chapter 13 - Journey to the City

The path to the city is not very complicated.

Cloud has asked before, the chief and others that have gone through it before told him that he just need to follow the river downstream.

It's very simple so there is no need to worry about getting lost.

The problem is not that. It's the distance and the countless wild beasts around.

It would take about two weeks on foot from the village to the city.

Cloud with a cloth bag on his back and the short blade on his right side waist look back toward the village for the last time before he turn and leave.

He only stayed at the village for about a year. It wasn't very long.

But even then, he has some attachment to it. Although he wasn't here for long, the people around treated him well.

They also experience a lot of things together, making what seems to be a short time feels longer.

Before Cloud leave, Hong told him to visit anytime he can.

The chief also warn him that the path of cultivation is not easy and if he has some problems later on, or if he face a wall that he cannot overcome easily he can go back to the village.

The chief said that the village will always have a place for him

The treatment he received from the people of the village move Cloud.

But he still decisively leave anyway.

He must move on to the next stage of his path.

This is just what it means to walk the path of a cultivator.

If you stay too long because of people or affection then you wouldn't progress.

To go further one must keep walking without stopping.

So Cloud just keep the village name in his heart as he move towards the next chapter of his life.

The village is called Hope village. Filled with the hope of the chief who named it.

Cloud move through the path swiftly. He is quite excited to see the city.

But he isn't running with all his strength, he just leisurely skipping forward.

The area around the village is quite peaceful. Cloud hasn't encountered any beasts that attack him yet.

It's probably because a lot of beasts around the area was the one on the beasts tide.

So most has been slaughtered and they haven't recovered.

But they will eventually recover soon enough.

This world is unlike the world where Cloud came from. Here, no matter how many beasts you kill, there will always be more.

Cloud move quickly for a few days. He only stop to eat and rest at night.

But his enthusiasm gradually diminishes over time.

Cloud start to enjoy the journey instead of hurrying about.

Cloud realize that even if he run with full strength he wouldn't arrive that much sooner anyway.

After a few days, the beasts start to appear.

Cloud deal with them easily and even roast some of them for food.

Before, he has brought some smoked meat from the village so he wasn't starving on the way.

But after a few days of eating the same thing he grew tired of it so it's nice to eat fresh meat for a change.

The journey went on like that for days.

Cloud eat and rest at night and in day he slaughter through the beasts and follow the river downstream.

Less than a dozen days later, Cloud finally see the silhouette of a city.

At this time his clothes is torn in many places and it also filled with blood.

The amount of beasts that he has to fight through to get here was staggering.

Sometimes he has to kill an endless amount of beasts and other time he has to run from several fierce beasts that chase him together.

Also, he can't even take a rest at night sometimes because of the amount of beasts around.

The chief wasn't kidding when he said the journey would be difficult.

Even with Cloud's strength he barely manage to go through it.

If he was impatient and he left the village when he was at stage four or five then he's sure that he wouldn't survive the journey.

When Cloud see the city he sigh in relief and hurry toward it.

He is sick of sleeping in the wilderness and eating basic food.

He want to hurry to the village so he can sleep at a decent place and eat decent food.

Soon Cloud reach the gate of the city.

He marvel at the city before him now that it's close enough for him to see.
