Denton had been lost in contemplation for what felt like hours. The deeper he delved into his thoughts, the more his chest constricted with pain.
At last, he drew in a sharp breath, his determination crystallizing.
He had to set things right.
He would discover a way to make amends for his past wrongs.
And above all else, he prayed—his sister might someday find it in her heart to forgive him.
When I stirred awake, the sun was already high in the mid-morning sky.
I felt considerably refreshed after sleeping through the night. After freshening up, my first priority was racing to the hospital to see how Ryan was doing.
He remained unconscious.
Rosalind was still maintaining her vigil.
"Rosalind, let me take over now. You should head home and rest."
Rosalind gave a weary nod and departed from the hospital.
Positioned outside the ICU, I stared through the transparent barrier at Ryan's still form on the medical bed. My chest tightened with anguish.
