Harold's POV
"Is she your girlfriend?" The Education Bureau director's voice carried a nervous edge through the phone.
I paused briefly, then let out a quiet laugh. "Who gave you that idea?"
My amused tone must have reached Henry Julio clearly, because his expression grew more stern on the other end. "Doesn't matter who said it. I just need your answer."
Honestly, I didn't owe him any explanations. My silence spoke volumes. Even if Phoebe wasn't mine yet, she would be soon enough.
I struck a match and lit my cigarette. "Mr. Julio, regardless of what Phoebe means to me, if someone's filed a complaint with solid proof, shouldn't you handle this fairly? Don't disappoint the public."
Henry practically sputtered at my righteous act. "Fine, understood. I'm ending this call."
I could hear his internal fury. 'He wants me to dig deep into this, so why wrap it in moral platitudes?'
