Chapter 1 - The flower shop

"Thanks for your patronage, come back another time!" Daisy called to the last customer they had for the day who was exiting the shop. There was no response, just the chime of the bell indicating that the person had left the shop.

Daisy heaved a sigh. Finally, she was going home. The last customer had been so specific with the flowers she wanted, and Daisy spent much time looking for the one that she wanted.

After making sure that her sales for the day were accurate, Daisy came out of the counter and walked toward the entrance door. Even though the customer delayed her from going home sooner, she was not angry one bit. She loved the job she was doing, and she totally adored flowers more than anything.

Once she was outside the shop, she closed the door and started to walk home. Her left hand went to the left part of her face that was covered with a pink scarf.

Beneath there, she had a scar that covered half of her face, but she was a very pretty girl, scar or no scar.

"Hi, Daisy. The weather today is quite surprising, isn't it?" a woman who was at the front of the sidewalk asked as Daisy turned to the street heading to their house.

Daisy then looked up to the sky and frowned. The clouds had become darkened, promising a storm.

She didn't notice it when she came out of the shop. "Yes, it is, Mrs. Cooker. I do hope that it is a light rain," Daisy replied, flashing the woman a smile.

"Same here," the woman said, smiling back at her.

When Daisy walked past Mrs. Cooker, she increased her steps and walked faster. Her flowers were outside, and they would get destroyed if the storm started before she got home.

"Please, don't start yet," she pleaded, looking up at the dark clouds.

Finally, she got to their house and rushed in. A pleasant aroma of fried bacon and baked cake wafted to her nose, but she ignored it and made for the back door.

Reaching there, she opened it and went out, but the place was empty, so she went back into the living room.

"Daisy!" someone called, and she walked in the direction the voice came from.

A smile crept unto her face when she entered the kitchen and saw her grandmother setting the table that was in the kitchen.

"Awn, it has been long since we ate food at this table," she commented and walked closer to her grandmother.

"I know, which is why I wanted us to do that today," her grandmother replied, looking up.

Daisy got closer to her and then hugged her. "You are the best grandmother in the whole world," she said.

"And you are the best granddaughter in the whole world," her grandmother replied.

Then they broke the hug, and Daisy sat down at the table while her grandmother continued to dish out the food. After she was done, she sat down, and they prayed and started eating.

"So how was work today?" her grandmother asked.

"It was great. Some new flowers came in, so I will start to arrange it tomorrow morning. You carried in my flowers?" Daisy replied.

"Yes, I couldn't let my granddaughter's babies get ruined. It is great that you are enjoying the job, and no one is disturbing you there, right?" she asked.

"I am doing just fine, Grandma. No one is bothering me," she smiled at her grandmother to assure her that everything was going great.

"Better, because if anyone dares to bother you, they will have me to answer to."

"No one is disturbing me, so relax, my superwoman."

"I have."

They continued eating, and after they were done, Daisy helped her grandmother wash the dishes and arrange the kitchen even though she was asked not to bother.

Then she climbed up to her room. When she got there, she entered inside and headed straight to the bathroom.

She stood before the mirror and removed her scarf. She ran her hands on the scar on the left side of her face and sighed. It covered half of her face, which was the reason she covered it with a scarf. People often told her that her other good side was pretty, and if it wasn't for the scar, she would be very pretty.

Her grandmother told her that she got the scar from an accident when she was still a baby, and her mother died in the accident. Since then, she had been living with her grandmother. No one knew who her father was because her mother didn't marry, and she didn't tell anyone who got her pregnant.

"Another day gone, it is time to prepare for a new one," Daisy muttered, then removed her clothes and got into the shower. After she was done showering, she came out and walked to another door that was in her room. She opened it and went in. It was her indoor garden where she planted her flowers. Her eyes lit up when she saw the flowers that her grandmother brought in for her and saw that it hadn't been ruined.

She then examined other flowers and came out. She wore her pajamas and got into the bed and covered herself with a quilt. Just as she had settled down, the rain began to fall with thunder and lightning.

With a satisfied smile, Daisy closed her eyes, and before long she drifted to slumberland.

The next morning, the sun had already risen when Daisy woke up. She got up from the bed and went into her indoor garden.

She watered the flowers and made sure that they were getting enough sunlight, and then she left the room.

After she had freshened up, she went downstairs and helped her grandmother prepare breakfast, which she ate and left.

As she walked the street leading to her workplace, she made sure to greet everybody that she saw while flashing them a smile. Some responded, while some just ignored her totally. That didn't affect her at all.

Finally, she got to the flower shop. It was still closed, which meant that her employer, Nick, had not arrived.

"It is another morning, please come and take control, God," Daisy muttered before she opened the door of the store and went in.

She started to tidy the store, and after that she arranged the flowers that were ready to be sold. Then she went to her position at the counter and sat down.

After ten minutes, the bell chimed, and someone walked into the store. Daisy adjusted her scarf properly, thinking that it was a customer, but it turned out to be her colleague, Lilly.

"Good morning, Lilly," Daisy greeted her.

She got no response from her. It wasn't strange; Lilly always ignored her greetings since she started working there.

"Maybe she is in a bad mood today," Daisy thought. This was the first thing that she thought of the first time she ignored her greeting, but it was now obvious that she didn't want to acknowledge it.

That had worried Daisy for long, but not today. Something else was worrying her.

She had noticed when she was preparing breakfast with her grandmother that she looked weak. She asked her if she was okay, and her grandmother replied that it was because she didn't sleep early.

Daisy had believed her and let the matter go, but she couldn't seem to shake it off.

"Earth to Daisy!" a voice shouted.

Daisy's heart skipped a beat, and she turned in the direction of the voice. Nick, her employer, stood there glaring at her.

She bit her lips and then greeted, "Good morning, Nick."

God, please let him not be in a bad mood today, she thought.

"Don't tell me that you are slacking on your work, Daisy?" he asked.

"No, sir, I was—"

"Save your explanation for people that care. The only reason that you are still here is because you are an expert with flowers. Don't let it get to your head, because when I see another person that is good with flowers, you are out, understand?"

"Understood, sir," she replied.

"Attend to her," Nick said, referring to the woman that was standing beside him.

"Okay, sir."

Nick left for his office while Daisy attended to the woman. It didn't take long for her to get the flower that the woman wanted.

The woman paid and left. Customers kept coming, and Daisy kept attending to them. She even had to assist Lilly with her own customers.

When it was lunchtime, she heaved a sigh of relief and was salivating over the delicious food she would eat when Nick came out of his office.

"Someone called me just now. They are coming to get some flowers. You have to stay and attend to them, Daisy," he said.

"Yes, sir," she replied.

"Attend to them very well."

"I will."

Daisy would forfeit anything else for flowers. They were a part of her.

"Flower freak," Lilly muttered, and she turned to her. Their eyes met, and Daisy flashed her a friendly smile while Lilly scowled back.

After taking her purse, Lilly went toward the entrance door. "Please, can you buy me lunch, Lilly?" Daisy called after her.

Lilly ignored her and continued walking to the door. She got there and opened it, but before she could take a step, two men stood outside the door blocking it. One was a little older, while the other one was young.

Lilly lost her voice when she looked up and saw the face of the younger man. It looked like something that was carefully sculpted, with a defined nose and kissable lips.

When Lilly looked into his eyes, her breath hitched. The man was staring at her like a predator, and she was just a useless fly. It was obvious he didn't like how she was staring at him.

"Umm, welcome to Nick's floral store," she finally said to them.

"Get us the best flowers you got," the older man said.

"Please come in," Lilly urged and walked back into the store.

"What is wrong with Lilly?" Daisy wondered when she saw her standing at the door just staring and not moving. From the place she was sitting, she couldn't see the person at the door.

As she was about to come out of her counter, Lilly then walked back into the store with two huge men.

"It must be the people Nick was talking about," she thought, and then came out of the counter to assist Lilly in attending to them. But just as she took a step toward them, a woman rushed into the store calling her name.
