Phoebe's POV
I knew Harold's team had already marked lan the second they figured out he was an overseas gun-for-hire. The only reason they hadn't tailed him was because of me.
What caught them off guard was lan beating them to the punch - he went straight to Harold before they could even make a move.
Harold's POV
For a mercenary like J, who'd built his rep on being a lone wolf, running to someone else for backup was way out of character.
I wasn't buying that J had suddenly grown a conscience.
That's exactly why lan's behavior set off my alarm bells.
Phoebe's POV
I sucked in a sharp breath. "I know exactly who he is. When I was stuck in Heather, I got into some serious trouble more than once. He pulled my ass out of the fire every single time."
lan's sketchy history wasn't exactly classified information, and Harold had every right to be paranoid.
