Phoebe's POV
Roger seemed mesmerized by my smile, completely missing the brief flash of ice in my gaze.
My looks and attitude could be deceiving when I wanted them to be. Anyone glancing my way would catch only the bright, innocent sparkle I chose to show them. The laziness, indifference, and rebellion lurking beneath rarely surfaced for most people to see.
But Charlies, positioned closest to me, didn't miss that cold glimmer.
His brow creased slightly. He'd been in the office yesterday and knew exactly who had posted those nasty comments about me on the forum.
He also understood why I hadn't demanded their removal.
Charlies was aware I wasn't the type to lash out at innocent people, but he still felt uneasy about my reaction to seeing Roger.
He worried that if I was feeling volatile, I might unleash that frustration on Roger.
