Honestly, I couldn't care less about this so-called Ellis family. They weren't even close to being one of Clearwater's elite circles, which explained why I knew next to nothing about them.
Both Alan and I shifted our attention to Lucas, whose eyes immediately sparked with interest. Lucas had connections everywhere. When it came to the city's underground scene and dirty business, barely anything escaped his knowledge.
Lucas scratched his buzz cut and spoke up. "The Ellis family's actually descended from the Raymond lineage. Way back during some rough patches, they switched their surname to Ellis to lay low and dodge heat. Even after things settled down and they relocated to Clearwater, they never really registered on the wealthy elite's radar. Most of their operations are pretty sketchy and happen mainly abroad—they barely mingle with our crowd."
Alan, obviously losing patience, interrupted. "Lucas, cut to the chase. What's the deal with this Burton character?"
