"Rush her to the ICU!" Dr. Nathan barked as he slammed the lab door open.
Two female doctors in lab coats hurried inside with a rollable bed. Mary was still screaming, her hands gripping her swollen belly as the glowing white in her eyes flickered, dimming slightly but still unnaturally bright.
"Careful—move!" Nathan snapped, watching as they lifted her onto the bed and whisked her down the hallway.
As the echoes of Mary's cries faded, the two doctors exchanged a whisper.
"Why are her eyes glowing like that?" one asked, voice trembling. "It looks like she's taken a mythical beast gene… this isn't normal."
The other shook her head, whispering even lower. "You know Dr. Nathan… he's not exactly normal. And if we report this and the higher-ups approved it? What do you think will happen to us?"
The first doctor swallowed. "…You're right."
Behind them, Nathan stepped out of his office slowly, a faint smile tugging at the edge of his lips.
It came earlier than expected, he thought. Awakening the powers while the child is still in the womb… affecting the mother too… The fusion rate must be extremely high. A success.
But then he froze.
A presence.
He turned—and saw Dr. Feil leaning against the wall, arms crossed, eyes filled with disappointment and anger.
A long, heavy silence.
Then Feil spoke, voice low but trembling with contained fury.
"If anything happens to the mother or the child… I'll report you to the higher-ups myself. I'll make sure you're demoted—or better yet—you lose your license."
Nathan stared at him for a moment… and then burst into a cold, mocking laugh.
"Oh really?" he scoffed. "You'll report me to the same higher-ups who gave the approval? Go ahead. Let's see whose license gets revoked."
He turned away, hands in his pockets, walking down the corridor with calm, calculated steps. But just before his figure disappeared around the corner, he spoke in a dark, emotionless tone:
"Feil… if their lives are lost—so what? They contributed to the greater good. They'll die saving humanity."
