Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Forge Empire

This new world in which Axel found himself was a world occupied by humans, vampires and fairies.

During the early days, there was a lot of clashing between these three races, most of which ended brutally with heavy casualties on every side.

Although extremists from each side felt that only their race should be allowed to live comfortably while the other two should either become slaves or get wiped out, there were still those who advocated for peace and co-existence.

This was one of the reasons why the kingdom of Mystonia was created.

A kingdom with the sole purpose of bringing the three races together.

Although that was the case, the human race actually didn't have that much contact in Mystonia.

Otherwise, there would have been a few human students in Nelxus Academy.

The main reason was that they didn't want to be close to these two races that were much stronger than they were.

To be precise, they were guarding against the vampires which were always after their blood.

Although vampires these days could control themselves well at the sight of a human being, a vampire suddenly was still something that could happen.

So, just to avoid trouble, human beings would only allow their people to go to Mystonia under specific circumstances.

However, their influence in Mystonia wasn't any less than that of the other two races.

Over the years, Mystonia had grown from a kingdom that was initially mocked by the extremists to a powerful kingdom with the capability to stand on its own.

The kingdom was strong in all different areas but one of the things the people were most proud of was their superior economy.

Mystonia was arguably the richest and most developed kingdom in the world with geniuses from all three races coming together to push its progress.

Most of the powerful business institutions and organisations had their headquarters in Mystonia.

Among those institutions was one known for producing superior-grade beast weapons that were very well acknowledged all around the world.

The forge empire.

One of the tallest buildings in Mystonia, reaching up to ten floors, belonged to the forge empire.

The entrance of the building was always surrounded by numerous guards every day to prevent anyone from having the idea of sneaking.

However, that still didn't stop the people who were always snooping around the area every day.

They all had one goal: to catch a glimpse of the Forge Empire's mysterious boss.

Unfortunately, their wish might never be able to come true.

If they knew that the headquarters building had a secret passage made specifically for the boss they might actually vomit blood.

At this moment, Vesper had just walked into the building from the dark tunnel to find a young female fairy waiting for her with a notepad and pen in her hand.

She was a bit shorter than Vesper, and her soft facial features made her look much younger, too.

"Oh, my great ancestor, you're finally here." The fairy couldn't help but sigh in relief as soon as she saw Vesper.

Vesper didn't say anything and just walked past her, heading down the quiet corridor.

The fairy seemed to be used to this kind of attitude and happily jogged after her with a smile.

"Boss, you cannot believe how exhausted I've been for the past few days. We've received a lot of orders, and a lot of them are from big families. They're asking to get them customised according to their wishes, they want you to do it personally, or we won't have things easy." She sounded quite aggrieved.

Vesper couldn't help but click her tongue in response.

"I didn't know we were so easy to threaten these days."

Feeling the chill emanating from her, the young fairy shuddered before shaking her head.

"Well, technically only one of those families threatened us." She clarified.

It would be unfair if the others got punished for what they didn't know anything about.

"Then speak properly next time."

They had reached the end of the corridor, and in front of them was now a well-crafted black door.

Vesper didn't say anything else to the fairy behind her and pushed the door open, revealing a well-furnished office.

There was a long desk by the side with a lot of documents stacked on top of it, and in the waiting area were two couches with a small table in the centre.

On the table was a tea kettle and two tea cups placed beside it.

The faint golden rays of the sun shone in through the parted curtains and the air smelt of faint apple wood

Sandra couldn't help but take a deep breath as she felt her nerves relax.

The contrast between that depressing hallway and the relaxing atmosphere in this office was really jarring.

She understood that the boss needed a quiet place for her office but they really had to do something about that creepy hallway.

"Sandra."

Vesper's low voice snapped Sandra out of her thoughts.

She quickly turned around to see Vesper who was now sitting on the chair behind the desk, staring at her with a cold expression.

"Right, boss, it was Duke Sandan's residence that threatened to make things difficult for us." Sandra quickly finished her report about the situation.

Vesper didn't reply immediately; instead, she reached for the pen on the desk and began to twirl it on her fingers.

"It's them again." She uttered.

Her expression didn't change but she was sneering inwardly.

"Who delivered their order?" He asked as he picked up one of the files on the desk.

"I heard it was a servant," Sandra reported.

"I see." Vesper nodded. "Tell the Duke Sandan residence that until they learn how to discipline their people well, we won't be taking any of their orders."

Her voice was domineering and resolute; it looked like the Duke's residence wouldn't be getting their weapon anytime soon.

Hearing what she said, Sandra couldn't help but heave a sigh of relief inwardly.

Their institution was strong, but she was still a bit afraid of these powerful families, afraid that they would cause trouble for them. But since the boss was handling it this way, it meant that there was nothing to fear.

She was about to move on to other reports when Vesper suddenly looked up at her.

She was already used to those piercing eyes, but she would still always feel a jolt in her heart whenever those eyes latched onto her as they did just now.

"What's the progress on the thing I asked you to investigate?" She inquired.

"Are you talking about the spirit trapping crystal?"

Vesper didn't say anything, but she knew this was what she was asking about, so she continued.

"At the moment, we have indeed found spirit trapping crystals but….."

"But what?"

"It's a very tricky situation, the crystal is deep in a zone with a high level of corruption concentration. It's currently surrounded by at least fifteen level eight beasts and guarding it by its side is a level nine scorching cobra."

What Sandra didn't say was that they suffered heavy casualties just to obtain this information.

Hearing Sandra's report, Vesper's grip on the report she was reading tightened.

"That is indeed tricky." She mumbled absent-mindedly.
