Several days had passed since that explosive moment when Jasmine's palm connected with Palmer's cheek.
The slap still echoed through the palace corridors like an unspoken secret everyone pretended not to know about. Whatever had triggered that violent confrontation between them remained a mystery to me, but the aftermath was impossible to ignore.
The entire palace felt different now.
Jasmine moved through the halls like Palmer was nothing more than empty air. She didn't acknowledge his presence, didn't spare him even the briefest glance. Her indifference was surgical in its precision.
But that same frost extended to me too.
When our paths crossed, she looked right through me as if I were carved from the same worthless stone as him. Maybe in her eyes, we were exactly that.
