Naia's small fingers intertwined with mine as we stepped into the afternoon sunlight, her grip tender yet secure against my palm.
Behind us, Jeffrey bounded toward Uncle Luis and Uncle Stephen's sleek vehicle, his animated chatter bouncing off the gleaming cars lined across our driveway.
I crouched down to secure Naia in her car seat, gently pushing a wayward curl from her face.
She beamed at me before settling back, her legs swaying rhythmically as she hummed a cheerful tune.
Phil turned the ignition, and the engine responded with a smooth rumble. I slid in beside Naia as we glided away from the estate. A convoy of dark vehicles followed in our wake like silent shadows.
We had barely cleared the property gates when Naia's voice cut through the peaceful interior.
"Mummy, is Aunt Lina coming to the party too? Like Uncle Luis and Uncle Stephen?"
Her innocent question sliced through the calm atmosphere like a stone dropped into placid water.
