The moment she disappeared from the balcony, staying at that party became impossible.
I waited until the final speech concluded, then made my escape. My thoughts were a chaotic mess, scattered like leaves in a hurricane, making it impossible to focus on anything else around me.
My supposed mate hadn't even acknowledged my existence once during the entire evening.
Despite following her onto that balcony, desperately hoping for just a glance or perhaps a meaningful conversation, she had dismissed me completely. Treated me as if I were invisible, or worse, contaminated with some contagious illness.
Perhaps I was being utterly foolish. She owed me nothing whatsoever. After all, I had Sylvia waiting at home, along with my son. If my wife were flirting with other men during my absence, the betrayal would devastate me.
