The heavy oak door crashed against the marble entryway as Mrs. Meggie Wesson stormed into their estate, her designer heels clicking like gunshots against the polished floor.
"Do you have any comprehension of what you've just done, Rowan?" she hissed, her voice echoing through the grand foyer.
Young Rowan cowered near the doorway, his tiny fists clenched at his sides. His voice broke as he shouted back, "I didn't do nothing wrong!"
The chandelier overhead cast harsh shadows across Mr. Ernest Wesson's face as he advanced into the hallway, his expensive suit wrinkled from their hasty departure. "Nothing wrong?" His voice boomed through the space. "You've just destroyed everything we've worked for! You made us look like fools in front of the most important woman in the jewelry industry!"
Rowan's lower lip trembled violently. "But Daddy, I was only trying to be polite! That boy, he was different! His eyes, they weren't normal!"
