Time stopped completely.
My lungs seized as the shock hit me like lightning. Standing there was Jayden, his hands having just released my waist moments before. I stumbled backward, putting distance between us while my heart hammered against my ribs.
The years hadn't diminished his effect on me. If anything, maturity had sharpened his features, made him more devastatingly attractive. I schooled my features into neutrality, refusing to let him see how his presence shattered my composure.
Every nerve in my body screamed.
Behind him stood another ghost from my past.

Five years had transformed the boyish charm I remembered into something more refined, more serious. His usual easy grin was nowhere to be found. The change unsettled me, but what worried me more was the recognition I glimpsed in his eyes.
