She haunted every corner of my mind.
Abner wouldn't settle down, prowling restlessly through my consciousness like a caged animal. His excitement buzzed so intensely that I had to suppress our bond just to form coherent thoughts. Even then, concentration felt impossible.
One glimpse. That's all I'd gotten of her.
Yet her werewolf essence lingered around me like smoke I couldn't escape. Fresh lavender mixed with something untamed, something that made my blood sing in ways I'd never experienced before.
When I'd caught her from that near-fall, she'd looked up at me with eyes that held secrets. Fear flickered there, yes, but also recognition. As if she knew me from somewhere beyond this moment. Then she'd straightened with quiet determination, stepped back, and walked away like the electric current between us meant nothing.
Like she hadn't felt it too.
But I knew she had.
