"Rita, what is she doing here?" I asked, almost disappointed at Rita.
"Calm down, Ava, she was the reason I called you earlier. She reached out to me earlier, and she said she has been trying to talk to you, but she wasn't able to. So she reached out to me and told me what happened. So when you told me you were coming today, I then called her and told her to come," Rita said.
"I don't understand, what do you want to talk to me about?" I asked, facing the direction of the girl.
"Well, Matheo has been very mad at me since that day, and I've heard how much he is suffering because of what I did," the girl said with an indifferent look on her face.
"So how does that concern me?" I asked, irritated by the expression on her face.
"Well, it's not as if I care about you, but because of the love I have for Matheo, I don't want him to suffer anymore. And after this conversation, I'm sure he would appreciate what I did, and maybe we could continue from where we stopped," the girl said.
The girl was getting on my nerves so badly, it was as if I should just squeeze her and throw her out of the room. Then I said, "Rita, I can't stand this girl anymore, I'm leaving."
I was making my way towards the exit of the room when the girl said, "I'd prefer you don't listen to me, so you would never reconcile, and maybe we can get back together. Well, on that day, I saw you coming and I knew you came with Matheo, so I quickly forced a kiss on his lips to make you angry."
I was so stunned by what she said, and then I went back to where I was staying before in Rita's room.
"Why would you do that? It still doesn't solve anything, though, because why was he talking to you in the first place?" I asked, feeling confused.
"Excuse me!! Matheo is my ex-boyfriend. We dated briefly before you even came to this school, and he loved me, but I did something that hurt him so much, that it was why we broke up," the girl said proudly.
"He was surprised to see me there, because since we broke up, he hasn't seen me around. While you were not looking, he pulled me to the restroom to ask what I was doing there, and was warning me not to cause a scene because he knows how I am. We were going back and forth about different things before I saw you, then I kissed him," she added.
I instantly felt discomfort in my stomach after hearing what she said. I started regretting why I didn't even hear him out first. But the girl was still pissing me off with her attitude, so I said, "So how do I know he didn't force you to say all these things to me to justify himself?"
"Girl!! Believe whatever you want to believe. I've done my part, I just hope he forgives me, and you guys never reconcile," she said, and it sounded like a curse. She immediately left the room after she said that.
I turned to Rita, who had just been staring at us without even saying anything, and said, "Rita, this girl gets on my nerves so badly, I wonder how Matheo was even able to put up with her."
Rita laughed out loud and said, "Maybe she's good in bed."
The thought of Matheo having sex with someone else made me green with envy, even though I had no plans of having sex with him, because I haven't healed completely from what he did.
I pretended as if I did not hear what she said, then I asked her, "Rita, what am I going to do now? Matheo was still trying to explain himself until I went out with Liam. I honestly don't know what he's thinking now."
"Maybe you should start by unblocking him first, then you can go to his house so you guys can talk face to face," Rita said.
Rita has always been a fan of me dating Matheo. She wanted things to work between us so badly. She felt that the way he loved me was so beautiful, and she would make comments on how she wanted that type of love for herself.
But I didn't know what to do, because I didn't feel like I overreacted. Regardless of what the girl said, I still witnessed that; it was not like I knew about the backstory. I reacted based on what I saw.
I decided I wasn't going to apologize for anything, because I didn't do anything wrong. So if he wants to speak to me, I'm willing to move past that, but if he doesn't want to speak to me, I won't bother him.
"Rita, I can unblock him on every app on my phone where he can reach out to me, but I won't go to his house," I said assertively.
"Okay, that's fine too," Rita said.
I picked up my phone and unblocked him on every app I blocked him on, then I told Rita that I'd unblocked him. We spoke for a while before I told her that I would be heading home, because it was already getting late.
I got home feeling stressed both emotionally and physically, so I just listened to some sad songs on my phone and then I fell asleep.
The next day, I saw Matheo in school, but he didn't speak to me, so I ignored him in return. I went to the cafe where I was working, did my shift, and after I was done, I went home.
The following day, I woke up to a text message from my mom saying, "Happy birthday, my princess with whom I'm proud of. I wish you long life and prosperity. I sent you money to buy a cake and other things you want."
So I called her and thanked her. I also spoke to my dad and younger brother on the phone. They wished me a happy birthday and said that when I come back home, I would receive my gifts.
Almost everyone I know texted me, and some of them sent me money. I scrolled through my phone and realized there was no text or call from Matheo. It was only later that I found out that he had bigger plans.
