As soon as we stepped out, gunshots split the air.
I flinched, eyes widening as two of the deltas dropped instantly, twitching and groaning in pain before going still.
"Shit!" I hissed. "Everyone get down! Don't let the fucking bullets touch you. It's wolfsbane and silver!"
I grabbed Celina's hand as she rushed toward me, shoving her behind my back to shield her. Still, it didn't feel like enough.
I couldn't tell where the bullets were coming from.
Behind us? I saw no one, and if they were that close, I'd already be dead.
In front of us? There was a massive barrier blocking the road. Celina had put it up herself. We tested it. So how the hell were bullets getting through now?
And the car?
I pulled Celina with me and moved toward it.
It was empty. A decoy.
They knew we were coming.
My thoughts spiraled as confusion surged through me.
The remaining deltas lay flat against the ground, completely exposed. There was nothing solid enough to shield them from the shooters.
