Chapter 39 - chapter 39

Nightfall in Jump City

The sun dipped beneath the water,

painting the sky in red and gold flames.

A color he didn't have to fear anymore.

The girl nudged him gently.

"Hey… you're pretty cute when you're not brooding."

Damian nearly choked on his drink.

She laughed, standing up.

"See you around, Damian."

She walked away, waving without looking back.

Damian stared after her, unsure why his heart felt… lighter.

"…Maybe," he whispered to the waves,

"vacation isn't so bad."

Jump City Was Supposed to Be Simple

Damian Wayne had no League.

No missions.

No assassinations.

Just peace.

Morning training.

Meditation.

Sparring with shadows, not people.

Trying to relax.

And sometimes…

talking to a mysterious, beautiful woman who kept appearing whenever he least expected.

Zatanna Zatara.

Her smile was too knowing.

Her magic was too casual.

Her presence was too comfortable.

She was danger in lipstick and a swimsuit.

And for once, Damian didn't mind danger.

But fate had other plans.

The Titan Crisis Erupts

A massive magical explosion shook Jump City.

Purple flames.

Demonic energy.

The sky tearing like fabric.

Damian sighed.

"Of course. I can't even take a vacation."

Zatanna appeared beside him in a shimmer of light.

"Trouble," she chimed. "Big magical trouble.

Want me to handle it?"

"No," Damian muttered. "You're on vacation too."

Zatanna raised an eyebrow.

"That's not a 'no' to helping. That's a 'no' to letting me take the risk for you."

Damian looked away, cheeks warming.

Zatanna smirked.

Then she vanished.

The Titans Are Losing

Jump City's downtown looked like a warzone.

And fighting at ground zero—

The Teen Titans.

Cyborg blasted energy cannons.

Beast Boy lunged.

Starfire shot green fire.

Robin (Tim Drake) tried to coordinate.

They were failing.

But the one holding back the most destruction was…

Raven.

Floating, cloak swirling, eyes glowing with power she struggled to contain.

Her magic flickered—unstable.

Damian's breath caught.

Something about her felt… familiar.

Darkness.

Pain.

Loneliness.

Control on the edge of collapse.

Without thinking, he stepped closer

Raven Senses Him

Raven froze mid-air.

She turned—slowly—eyes widening behind her hood as she stared directly at Damian.

She didn't see his face.

She didn't know his identity.

But she felt something else:

His flames.

His Sun Breathing.

His demon-slayer precision.

His broken heart.

Her voice trembled.

"…You're like me."

Damian whispered back, "No. You're far better."

Before she could react—the demon creature unleashed a wave of hellfire.

Straight at Raven.

Damian moved faster than thought.

Sun Breathing: Sixth Form — Solar Flashdance

A burst of blinding heat sliced the hellfire apart, evaporating it like mist.

Raven gasped.

He had saved her.

Effortlessly.

Who are you?"

"A traveler," Damian said.

"You're lying," she whispered, almost fondly.

Two Hearts Notice Him

The battle ended.

The demon was destroyed by Damian's flames.

The Titans stared in disbelief.

But the only two who stepped toward him were:

Raven — quiet, intense, drawn to his soul.
