Chapter 76 - chapter 76

Damian Reaches the Crash Zone First… and Sees Doomsday Rise

The mission started

The night was unnervingly quiet.

Too quiet.

Damian stood on a broken cliffside overlooking the impact site — a crater so deep it seemed to swallow the earth. The surrounding forest was flattened in a perfect circle, trees snapped clean like toothpicks and soil fused into glass from sheer kinetic force.

Toothless paced behind him, growling low, wings partially spread.

Even the Night Fury — a creature afraid of nothing — was nervous.

Damian's heartbeat felt like thunder in his ears.

Because he already knew what this was.

Not from this world… but from the story he once knew.

"Doomsday…" he whispered.

"But this isn't when you were supposed to land."

This wasn't Metropolis.

This wasn't the right year.

This wasn't the right anything.

And that terrified him.

Damian's Thoughts Spiral

The timeline was broken.

He knew it.

He felt it.

He wasn't supposed to exist.

Not like this.

Not with this power.

Not with this level of influence.

And now the universe was correcting itself in the worst way possible — by moving pieces around him.

"If Doomsday changed its landing point… then what else has changed… because of me?"

Would Superman survive?

Would the Justice League arrive in time?

Would somebody die who wasn't supposed to?

What if the timeline reshuffled itself so badly that Clark didn't come back after this fight?

He swallowed hard.

"I can't let that happen. I won't."

Because the system mission wasn't to defeat Doomsday.

It was to ensure Superman survived.

He had one job.

And yet standing here… staring into the smoking crater… he felt like a child again.

The Pod Cracks

A metallic screech echoed across the ruined forest as something inside the crater began to move.

Toothless backed up, teeth snapping into place with a click.

Damian's hand went to the hilt of his Nichirin Blade automatically.

A second screech.

A deeper rumble.

Then the sound of bone grinding against bone.

The pod split.

White claws punched through the metal shell.

The ground trembled, dust billowed into the sky—

And a massive, deformed figure pulled itself up from the crater, shaking dirt and metal fragments from its body.

Gray skin.

Jagged protruding bones.

Eyes glowing with mindless hate.

Doomsday had awakened early.

And wrong.

Damian's breath caught.

"This isn't the same Doomsday from the story…"

"…this one's bigger."

It Looks at Him

For a moment, just one awful moment, Doomsday turned its head.

And looked directly at Damian.

No roar.

No battle cry.

Just… recognition.

As if it sensed something inside him the same way monsters sensed fire.

Toothless snarled, charging a plasma blast.

Damian whispered:

"No. Don't provoke it. Not yet."

Because if Doomsday leaped toward them now, before the League arrived, before Superman arrived—

Damian would have to fight it alone.

And that wasn't the mission.

Doomsday Jumps Away

The beast turned.

Then — with a single thunderous leap — it launched itself miles away, crashing through the forest like a living meteor.

It was heading toward civilization.

Toward people.

Damian exhaled sharply, tension snapping like a rubber band.

"Okay…"

"Okay. Focus. You can do this."

The system mission window chimed in his mind:

Objective: Ensure the survival of Superman and the Justice League during the Doomsday Event.

Failure: Catastrophic timeline destabilization.

(Rewards delivered upon mission completion only.)

Damian Mounts Toothless

He climbed onto Toothless's saddle, jaw clenched.

"Track him," he ordered.

The Night Fury spread his wings and launched into the air, spiraling above the trees.

Below, Doomsday carved a path through the forest — a moving earthquake.

Damian tightened his grip, eyes burning with focus.

"This wasn't supposed to happen…"

"…but I'm here now. And I'm not letting anyone die."

And with that —

Fire Shadow and the Night Fury began the hunt.
