Chapter 77 - chapter 77

Superman, Wonder Woman, and J'onn Arrive… and Damian Blocks Them

The wind tore past Damian's face as Toothless circled high above the shattered forest, tracking Doomsday's path of destruction. The monster was moving fast—far faster than in any story Damien remembered. It wasn't heading toward Metropolis.

It was heading toward Coastline City, a place never touched in the original Death of Superman arc.

Another change in the timeline.

Another consequence of his existence.

Damian grit his teeth.

"I caused this… so I have to control it."

A sudden burst of heat flashed across Toothless's scales.

A sonic boom cracked the air behind them.

Damian didn't need to turn around to know who it was.

Superman shot past him like a blue comet, slowing only when he realized Toothless and the rider weren't enemies.

Wonder Woman followed next, shield drawn, lasso glowing.

J'onn J'onzz phased into view from invisibility, hovering silently, eyes glowing with psychic caution.

The three landing together created a shockwave that rippled over the trees.

Superman's voice boomed:

"FIRE SHADOW. Step away from the crash site."

Damian raised a hand, signaling Toothless to hold his altitude.

He didn't back down.

He looked Superman dead in the eye.

"I can't do that."

The Tension Hits Immediately

Wonder Woman narrowed her eyes.

J'onn began scanning—only to recoil instantly, clutching his head.

Damian smirked.

"Try reading my mind again, Martian, and you're going to taste grilled fish and seasonings for the next twenty-four hours."

J'onn steadied himself, confused and unnerved.

Superman stepped forward, cape swaying in the rising winds.

"We know you were at the crash first."

"We know you followed it before we did."

"And we know you know what it is."

Damian didn't deny it.

He couldn't.

But He Also Couldn't Tell Them Everything

He couldn't say:

"I've seen this before."

"You're supposed to die fighting it."

"This timeline changed because I exist."

So he gave the half-truth he'd prepared.

"I sensed something dangerous, so I came to make sure no civilians were harmed."

Superman frowned.

"That doesn't explain how you got here before the League."

Damian shrugged.

"Because I'm faster than you think."

Wonder Woman Steps In

She approached him slowly, her eyes piercing.

"Child… this creature is beyond any threat you've ever faced.

You cannot be here."

Damian smiled politely.

"With respect, Princess… that thing is going to kill you if you don't listen to me."

Superman's fists clenched.

J'onn floated slightly closer.

Damian continued:

"If you charge in without preparation, you lose. All of you."

Superman's voice dropped.

"How do you know?"

Damian pointed toward the trail of destruction Doomsday left behind.

A crater.

A collapsed highway.

A melted truck engine.

Diana gasped softly.

"…Heat vision?"

Damian shook his head.

"No. Friction burn. The monster's skin is harder than metal.

Every time it moves, the air around it ignites."

They stared at him.

Damian didn't blink.

The Three Most Powerful Heroes Evaluate Him

Superman's eyes narrowed.

Diana's expression softened but stayed wary.

J'onn kept scanning—with no results.

After a long silence, Superman asked:

"…What do you suggest, then?"

Damian exhaled slowly.

This was the moment he had been preparing for.

He spoke with absolute certainty:

"Don't try to beat it."

"Contain it."

Superman frowned.

"Contain?"

"Yes. Drag it somewhere empty. Wear it down. Stall for time.

Let backup arrive."

Diana looked surprised.

J'onn finally nodded.

"His suggestion has logic. Direct confrontation would result in casualties."

Superman stared at Damian like he was seeing him for the first time—not as a masked vigilante…

…but as a strategist.

Finally, Superman Speaks

"Fire Shadow… stay behind us."

Damian didn't move.

He simply pointed at Toothless.

"If I wanted to run away, they'd never catch me."

Superman sighed.

He hated it.

But he understood.

"Fine. But don't engage unless absolutely necessary."

Damian nodded once.

"Just follow my lead."

Wonder Woman raised an eyebrow.

"…Your lead?"

Damian cracked a tiny smile.

"Trust me. I'm trying to keep you alive."

And with that—

Superman took off toward Doomsday's path.

Wonder Woman followed with a battle cry.

J'onn phased through the ground.

Damian leaned close to Toothless.

"Stay above them. Don't attack unless I say."

Toothless chirped and ascended.

Damian exhaled.

The first stage was complete:

The Justice League was listening to him.

Now came the hard part—

making sure none of them died.

The First Clash With Doomsday

Superman Takes the Hit — Wonder Woman Nearly Falls — And Batman Arrives to See His Son Leading Gods

Coastline City should have been alive.

Shops lit.

Cars moving.

People talking.

Instead, sirens wailed and smoke filled the air as terrified civilians fled in every direction. The ground shook with every step Doomsday took, each one cracking pavement and shattering windows.

Damian and Toothless descended from above, silent shadows against the burning skyline.

Superman streaked ahead like a meteor.

Wonder Woman landed with a crash that split asphalt.

J'onn phased up from the ground.

And then—

Doomsday turned its head toward them.

Its glowing eyes fixed directly on the brightest target in the sky.

Superman.

1. SUPERMAN TAKES THE FIRST HIT

Clark charged first, fist drawn back.

Doomsday didn't dodge.

It caught Superman's punch.

Caught it.

Then smashed Superman into the ground hard enough to create a new crater in the middle of the street.

Cars flipped.

Streetlights snapped.

A shockwave rippled for blocks.

Before Clark could stand—

Doomsday kicked him like a rag doll.

Superman flew through the side of a skyscraper, shattering floors as debris and glass rained on the city.

Damian cursed under his breath.

"It's stronger and faster than the original version."

Diana lunged immediately—shield forward, war cry echoing.

J'onn morphed his arms into blades and dove in.

And high above them all, Batman's jet approached the city…

2. WONDER WOMAN NEARLY DIES — TOOTHLESS INTERVENES

Diana's shield clanged off Doomsday's chest.

Barely a scratch.

Doomsday responded by grabbing her and hurling her into a building. She crashed through three floors before landing on her knees, breathless but not broken.

She rose again, charging—

And that's when Doomsday adapted.

Bone spikes extended along its arm, forming a jagged, spear-like blade.

It thrust forward.

Straight at her heart.

Diana saw it too late.

Damian screamed:

"TOOTHLESS — FIRE NOW!"

A burst of purple-blue plasma roared down from the sky.

It slammed into Doomsday's arm, knocking the blade off-course. Instead of piercing Diana's heart, it grazed her shoulder, slicing armor but missing vital arteries.

Diana spun, shocked, looking up at the Night Fury.

Toothless roared back, wings flared wide.

Damian leaned forward on the saddle:

"Get back, Princess! He adapts to melee too fast!"

She obeyed—she actually listened—falling back into a defensive stance.

Doomsday turned its focus upward, toward the dragon perched in the sky like a living shadow.

Damian readied his Nichirin blade.

If that thing jumps… we're dead.

3. BATMAN ARRIVES — AND SEES HIS SON COMMANDING GODS

The Batwing screeched overhead.

Batman leapt from the cockpit, firing grapnels to slow his descent before landing atop a toppled bus.

He wasn't prepared for the scene below.

Superman pulling himself from rubble

Wonder Woman regrouping

J'onn reforming his body

Doomsday tearing apart the street

And above all of them—

Damian. On Toothless. Giving orders… and the Justice League following them.

Batman froze.

This was his son.

A son he barely knew.

A son with power levels he couldn't calculate.

A son who was coordinating a battle against something that could destroy the planet.

Diana called out:

"Fire Shadow, what's the plan?"

Damian didn't hesitate, pointing his blade at Doomsday.

"We pull it away from the civilians and keep it contained until Superman gets back into the fight."

J'onn nodded.

Diana nodded.

Batman stared.

This wasn't the League leading a child.

This was the League listening to a child.

No—

Listening to Damian.

Damian pulled Toothless into a dive.

"Everyone! Move to Quadrant 5! We're luring it to the industrial zone!"

Superman, shaking off the dust, actually asked him:

"Why the industrial zone?"

Damian shouted back:

"Because if things get worse, there's nothing alive there to kill!"

Batman watched from below, stunned.

This wasn't training.

This wasn't luck.

This was strategy.

Battlefield genius.

And a boy who had no fear of gods or monsters.

4. BATMAN FINALLY SPEAKS

Damian landed Toothless on a destroyed rooftop, scanning Doomsday's movements.

Batman grappled up beside him, cape fluttering.

"Damian."

Damian didn't look at him.

He was too focused.

"Busy," he muttered.

Batman's jaw tightened.

"Damian—this thing can kill Superman. And it nearly killed Diana."

"I know," Damian replied coldly.

"That's why you're all listening to me."

Bruce swallowed.

He had never felt so helpless… or so proud.

"Damian… how did you know what Doomsday was? How did you know what it could do?"

Damian slowly turned his head.

His eyes were sharp, calm, burning with Sun-Breathing focus.

"Because…"

"…I've studied monsters like him my whole life."

Batman didn't understand the full truth behind those words.

But he believed him.

5. DOOMSDAY ROARS — ROUND TWO BEGINS

Doomsday slammed its fists into the ground, sending a wave of debris outward.

Superman shot back into the fight.

Wonder Woman tightened her grip on her sword.

J'onn hardened his form.

Toothless growled, plasma crackling in his mouth.

And Damian drew his sword.

"Dad," he said quietly.

"Stay behind me. This is going to get worse."

Batman froze.

His son wasn't asking.

He was commanding.

And Bruce Wayne—Batman, the Dark Knight—actually stepped back.

Because Damian was right.

Because his son had just taken charge of the Justice League…

…and saved two demigods in the same battle.
