**Jenifer's POV**
Kolton's hand froze mid-air, still clutching the ointment tube.
Guilt flickered across his features. "What could I possibly do to him? You told me to back off, didn't you? Look, I can't stand the bastard, but I'm not about to cross that line."
The evasion in his voice was crystal clear. I pinned him with a razor-sharp stare. "Really?"
My unrelenting gaze broke him down. "Okay, fine. I gave him a little reality check. Convinced a few partners to pull out of deals with his company. Nothing earth-shattering."
He rushed on, "Plus there was some board member at Gould Group plotting a takeover, so I threw some gasoline on that fire."
My expression turned stormy. He quickly backpedaled, "But that whole mess got sorted before New Year's. It's ancient history now."
"If it's ancient history, then why's he liquidating everything he owns?" My brow furrowed in confusion.
I believed Kolton—he never lied to me about this stuff.
