Mr Lucien looked at him in confusion.
"I've never heard that you have another daughter, Edward what is going on??
It was Juliet who answered this time around as she poured the wine into aclean glasses, have it to Lucien, his butler and her husband.
"You see.... what can i say? Elena is a very quiet and reserved child, she hardly mingled with the other children , she instead liked helping the maids out in the kitchen or garden, when the chores were all done, Elena dear would go back to her room after visiting the library upstairs to get a book, but I assure you that she is a very lovely girl, well suited to be a wife for your son" she ended her speech with a soft smile.This was one of the few times she had ever praised the girl, and it left a bitter aftertaste on her lips.
Lucien was quite intrigued by this other girl, but he felt the girl he had already seen was a qualified candidate.
"But Edward, I had only suggested a marriage between our family because I've heard so much about your daughter, surely it's not the other girl" the man had to stand his ground, he was only going to change his mind after he had met the other girl and made sure she was suitable for the job.
Cassy's face turned sour, she had taken a seat in the dinning area while the others sat in the living roomwhich was just ten feet away so,she could hear all they were saying, she began to panic. Seeing the expression on his daughter's face as he looked at her, Edward came up with a lie .
" I would have loved that very much, but we do have a tradition in our family to always get the eldest married first, i assure you that Elena is a very sensible child, she is very matured and composed, she is also a girl with many talents, you'll be happy with her trust me". The man assured the other.
Lucien looked at his butler who had been quiet ever since they had arrived, the butler also looked at him, they exchanged a look before Lucien slowly nodded.
Before he could speak up, Lucien heard the Juliet's soft voice. " I should go get Elena down here, Lucien, if you're okay with the that" she suggested ever playing the card of the virtuous woman. Elena would've smirked if she was around.
" That would be great, jully dear" Lucien nodded. She signalled Cassy over, together they went upstairs.
Lucien turned to Edward as the women left.
" I'm quite intrigued, but I've to believe that Edward's daughters are all well groomed fine ladies". Edward smiled when he heard his words.
" You're right, by good old friend " Edward's tone turned friendlier.
"Ha.. ha", Lucien laughed." You are a very lucky man Edward, you have such a lovely wife and two daughters, I want to stop myself but i can say i envy you" he chuckled before sipping from the glass Juliet had offered him.
" Let's make a toast to our future family" Edward suggested, raising up his glass of wine.
" That is a very fine idea". Lucien said as his eyes drifted to look at the stairs before raising up his glass, the butler did the same, they clicked the glasses together.
" Here is to a happy family in the future" Lucien added cheerfully as they drank the wine. They discussed about all other things but yet, Juliet had not showed up with the girl, Lucien looked at his wristwatch, it had been almost half an hour since they went up.
He was about to question Edward when Juliet walked in quick strides down the stairs looking all worked up, all alone.She bent to whisper something in her husband's ear.The man's eyes widened as she finished with whatever she had to tell him.
Edward stood up quickly. " I'm so sorry, Lucien but i need to go handle something upstairs, I'll be right back". He pleaded gently, though he looked quite worried. Lucien quickly nodded.
" You settle whatever issue you have, I'll be waiting here till you're done" Lucien waved him off.
" Thank you, Lucien" The couples literally ran up the stairs.
Lucien looked at their disappearing backs before turning to look at the butler.
" Something fishy is going on here, I can sense it" the butler spoke up.
" Hmm..." Lucien nodded before speaking up " But we'll just let them be, they'll come back soon, I believe " The butler looked at the man not sure if he was talking to him or himself.
