Chapter 36 - CHAPTER 36 — THE UNEXPECTED VISITOR

The Smith mansion was alive with its usual buzz: polished floors reflecting the midday sun, servants hurrying to and fro, and the faint hum of the family's private business dealings filling the grand hallways. Yet today, something felt… off.

Grace, pale and still raw from her recent miscarriage and divorce proceedings, lingered near the staircase, her hands clutched tightly around a cup of tea. John's temper simmered beneath the surface, his jaw tight as he reviewed a stack of papers that dictated the family's latest business move.

And then the front doors swung open.

A figure stepped in, tall, commanding, yet with an approachable warmth that seemed to bend the very air around him. Robin.

It had been months since he had last appeared in Fiona's life, months since the island and the chaos of kidnappings, Liam's obsession, and family betrayals. He had come to the Smith mansion on official business—or at least, that was what he claimed. But the way he scanned the room, eyes sharp, measuring, and slightly amused, told a different story.

"Robin?" Grace whispered, disbelief coloring her tone.

"Adriel Kael," John corrected automatically, voice low, almost threatening. But his eyes betrayed curiosity—and unease.

Robin's gaze moved slowly across the room, finally landing on Fiona's empty chair at the table. Though she wasn't present, his expression softened, almost imperceptibly.

He addressed the room with calm authority. "I'm here regarding some matters of security… and perhaps a personal errand."

The tension in the room thickened. Liam's absence was a relief for the William and Smith family members, but the moment Robin's name crossed lips, unease settled in. No one had anticipated this visit—no one had expected the boy from the orphanage, the man who had secretly saved Fiona, to appear in their territory.

Grace's face hardened. "What do you want here?" she asked, suspicion lacing her words.

Robin smiled faintly. "Merely to see how things are… and to ensure that certain individuals are safe." His eyes lingered in a way that suggested more than professional concern. "Particularly a young lady named Fiona."

The room went silent. Everyone knew he meant the adopted daughter who had vanished after the kidnapping incident—the one who had eluded both the William and Smith families, whose absence had shifted power and stirred obsession alike.

John's temper flared. "She's not here. And why should we care about her?"

Robin's gaze hardened. "Because she deserves recognition… and perhaps accountability from those who abandoned her."

Whispers erupted in the room, eyes darting toward Grace, John, and the other family members.

Meanwhile, outside, Liam's presence loomed large on the island. He had sensed Robin's arrival immediately, a flicker of tension crossing his face. This was the man who knew Fiona from before he ever claimed her. The man who had protected her when he could not. The man who now dared to step into the lions' den of her past.

Robin's calm, unyielding demeanor contrasted sharply with the chaotic energy of the mansion. He walked through the halls with purpose, exchanging curt nods with the staff, his presence making it clear that he was both guest and authority.

"I assume she's well," he said casually, though his eyes betrayed a piercing focus.

Grace bristled. "And if she's not? What is it to you?"

Robin's lips curved slightly, almost a smirk. "Let's just say… I owe certain debts, and I intend to see them fulfilled."

For a moment, the room held its collective breath. Nobody knew whether to challenge him, fear him, or ignore him. One thing was certain: Robin had changed. The boy who shared bread in the orphanage had grown into a man capable of bending both loyalty and fear to his will.

He paused at a grand window, looking out as though expecting someone. Liam, across the island, felt the pull immediately—a magnetic tension connecting him to Robin, to Fiona, to the tangled history none of them could escape.

The visit had begun, and already the atmosphere of the Smith mansion shifted. Alliances would be tested. Secrets would be exposed. And amidst it all, one truth loomed: Fiona's world, though far away, was never truly out of reach.
