Chen Shi examined the panel and couldn't help smiling. Quasi-Champion potential — exactly what he had hoped for. Once Togetic's innate Fairy-energy channels matured, he could evolve her into Togekiss with a top-grade Shiny Stone. At that stage, her ceiling would almost certainly reach Champion-tier.

The best part?

She had awakened Baby-Doll Eyes, a powerful Fairy-type debuff — and Air Slash, the signature move of the notorious "Serene Grace flinch-lock."

Her future was bright. Extremely bright.

Toge-ki~!

Togetic fluttered around Chen Shi excitedly, admiring her new form.

Be-ta!

The shiny Beldum zipped over, "congratulating" her in its stiff, metallic way.

Togetic puffed her tiny chest proudly and showed off her wings. Chen Shi glanced over at Beldum — it had gained a level while he was away. Already Level 18.

Just two more to reach Metang.

Today truly was a blessed day:

— He obtained Giratina's Reverse Scale fragment

— Togepi evolved

— Beldum leveled up

— Dragapult continued refining his control

— And Floss arrived without too much chaos… sort of

Chen Shi hummed under his breath, feeling the luck swirl around him.

He pulled out the pitch-black box containing the Reverse Scale. The box — an unknown, unnaturally sturdy material — sealed the aura completely. Only when opened did Dragon-types and Ghost-types react violently.

That one moment of opening earlier nearly made Dreepy break out of his Poké Ball.

He slid the box inside his jacket.

This was too important to lose.

If someone stole it, he would personally turn the world upside down to get it back.

Dinner Time — and a Floss Complaint Marathon

Grandma Chen prepared a full table that night to welcome Floss into the family.

Floss thanked her politely…

…then spent the next twenty minutes ranting about how Chen Shi had "bullied" her on the way down the mountain.

The elders laughed until their shoulders shook.

After everyone settled, Grandpa Chen cleared his throat.

"Floss, do you have any plans now that you've left Mt. Pyre?"

Floss froze. Plans? She'd never thought that far.

"…I don't know," she admitted quietly.

Grandpa Chen spoke seriously:

"Child, the world isn't as gentle as you imagine. There is only one truth in this world—"

He curled his fingers into a fist.

Floss blinked.

"…A hand?"

Chen Shi slapped his own forehead.

"A fist. He means strength."

"If you want people to listen to you, you need power."

"If you want to protect what's yours, you need even more power."

Floss nodded, then mumbled shyly:

"…But I don't think I have anything. I don't even have shoes."

She lifted her bare feet.

The entire table fell silent.

Grandma, Grandpa, and Chen Shi all stared in disbelief.

This girl… truly grew up isolated.

Chen Shi jabbed a finger toward the ghost-types eating nearby.

"Those. All of them are yours."

"Take them outside and you'll instantly attract thieves."

"Without strength, how will you protect your partners?"

Floss shrank back, horrified.

"B-but other people have Pokémon too… why would they steal mine…?"

Chen Shi nearly hit the floor.

"LOOK at them! Even a blind man can tell they're not normal Ghost-types!"

Floss pouted.

"…But how would they know the potential is high?"

Chen Shi inhaled sharply through his teeth.

He really needed to let this girl experience a mild scam or two.

Just a small one. A safe one.

Or she'd be eaten alive by society.

News That Shakes the Table

Grandpa Chen shifted topics.

"In three months, the League is hosting a major event. You two should join."

Floss perked up instantly.

"Grandpa Chen, what kind of event?"

"The Kanto League is inviting the strongest talents under twenty from every region. The event is called the World Championships."

Chen Shi froze.

A worldwide youth tournament?

A continent-spanning hunt for the strongest emerging Trainers?

The League was serious.

Grandpa continued:

"They want to cultivate the next generation of powerhouses. I heard the rewards will be extraordinary."

Chen Shi's heartbeat accelerated.

Top talents from every region under twenty…

That meant:

— Steven Stone

— Wallace

— Future Elite members

— Rising prodigies from Galar, Kalos, Sinnoh, Unova

— And a bunch of terrifying monsters he hadn't even heard of yet

This wasn't just a tournament.

This was the beginning of an era.

Chen Shi's blood boiled.

He wanted in.

He needed in.

Whatever the League was planning — he could feel it — this event would shape the future of the entire Pokémon world.
