Chapter 3 - Because of the colour of my skin?

Oh no, l am so sorry, not sorry. I heard the contempt in her voice and l could even recognise this voice even if l was deaf. I stared at Glenda who had this annoying smirk on her face. I frantically tried to brush off the coffee which had left an ugly brown stain on my blouse. That was the least of my worries though, because the hot coffee had left this agonising sensation as the pain worsened. Eli! Amy helped me to my feet and check my injury, the exposed area, a reddened patch. Glenda gave me a smug look. Ugly, watch where you are going. She laughed together with her friends, their mocking giggles piercing the hallway. Amy gently pulled me behind her back and was arguing with them whilst l tended to my wounds. Glenda stomped her foot angrily like a child throwing a tantrum and stormed off with her friends. Amy looked at me with concern leaning in as she checked my injury again. It's mothing, just like a scratch, l mumbled. She gave me that, "l'm about to lose it stare" , her anger simmering like a pot about to boil over. You need to stand up for yourself girl, she said.

I have been a target for Glenda from day one. Luckily, we don't study the same course. Her insults always cut deep and now l am a magnet for every cruel comment and bullying all because l don't look a certain way. I love my afro hair, my beautiful skin and big brown honey eyes. My mom says l am beautiful and l guess l see what she means. We bought our meal, unwrapped and dug in, laughter and chatter filling the air.

Everything passed like a blur, lectures ended. Amy still had some gymnastics training after so l bid her farewell and rushed to my workplace. I hailed a taxi and sat down. I leaned my head on the headrest and shut my eyes. Miss! Miss!, l squinted my eyes and took in my surroundings. I stared at the driver and mumbled a sorry. I paid him and watched as he drive off. I walked across the street and spotted the McDonald's where l worked part time . I put on my apron and started serving my first customer with a big smile on my face.

XATHAHS POV

I live to serve the king and the quest to find his chosen was my main purpose but l have failed time and time again, l lost counts. This time, we are about to embark on a journey to the land of nothingness. I hurtled through the void, my stomach twisting with anticipation as the stars outside my viewpoint blurred into tiny streaks of light. The space ship's engine roared, a deafening scream that vibrated every cell in my body. Beside me, my team the most trusted of all my men, Karn, Ray and Xeler were silent, their faces set in determined masks, their eyes fixed on the holographic display projecting our trajectory. These were the best of the best, hand picked for this mission, each with their unique skill honed to perfection. We are approaching Earth's atmosphere Karn announced, his voice crisp. I nodded, my heart racing as the ship shuddered and bucked, the shields glowing fiery red. We plunged into the planet's gravity well. The turbulence subsided and the ship leveled out, it's engines humming smoothly as we skimmed the upper atmosphere. Target acquisition, his voice low and steady. "The chosen is in range ". I leaned forward, my eyes scanning the terrain unfolding below. We were approaching a sprawling metropolis, a sea of steel and concrete that seemed to stretch forever. There, Xeler whispered, pointing to a spot on the display. I followed his finger, my breath catching as l spotted her. A young woman with a chocolate skin and beautiful thick hair like the night sky standing in a shop oblivious to the universe's gaze upon her. "That's her", l breathed, a shiver running down Mu spine. This was the planet we least expected but here we found the one we have been searching for.

The team's eyes met mine, a collective nod passing between us. This was it, the moment we have been training for. Prepare for landing, l ordered, my voice steady, my heart pounding in my chest. This is a big deal for us, the Oreos, a vicious clan was rapidly growing it's strength. Their aim was obvious, to take control of all the galaxies, which is absurd because the king is the most powerful but that has its downsides as well. He was slowly losing himself even though he is a powerhouse on the throne. He is a tempest, a whirlwind of raw power and energy that threatened to consume him whole. His very presence crackles with electric fire. If he was to even stand close to this planet, his energy will shatter it into smithereens. How powerful can one be if his mere presence can destroy a whole planet. In my heart, l have deep reverence for him but l am terrified to be in his presence. But to find the chosen is the key to him controlling his immense power. The only reason the Oreo clan is still standing is because the king can't step out of the protection barrier. We need our king, we need our chosen.
