Chapter 18 - Chapter 18

The Sunlight Scripture is one of the Slane Theocracy's six secret units. To join the Sunlight Scripture, one must undergo extremely strict screening. First is magic; everyone in this secret unit is a Magic Caster of the faith-based system.

Only those who can use third-tier faith-based magic are qualified to join. By the way, the limit for an ordinary Magic Caster is also the third-tier, which shows how stringent the entry requirements for this unit are.

Additionally, superior physical fitness and a strong spirit are required. Because the entire unit is composed of Magic Casters, its members must also possess the physique of a warrior.

In short, the Sunlight Scripture consists of elites among elites, but such a unit would not be responsible for assassinating someone like Gazef Stronoff.

Such a task should be carried out by the Black Scripture unit, whose members are all 'hero' class. However, unfortunately, the Black Scripture is currently executing an extremely confidential mission, so the Sunlight Scripture squad, which usually focuses solely on clearing demi-human tribes, has to undertake this task.

Although different from previous missions, Nigun, as the captain, understood that eliminating Gazef Stronoff was a crucial part of the Theocracy's future plans.

The Slane Theocracy never regarded other human nations as its enemies; its enemies were only demi-humans and heteromorphic species. On this land, humanity's strength was weak, and its living space was squeezed into the northwestern corner of the continent.

While there were many demi-human threats in the northwest, there were also safe places, such as the location of the Re-Estize Kingdom. The kingdom was situated in the heartland of human territory, with few demi-human threats around it. The Theocracy originally hoped that the kingdom could serve as a cradle for human powerhouses, capable of developing considerable military strength to combat the demi-human threat.

However, because the surroundings were too safe, the kingdom began to rot internally. The Theocracy believed it could no longer allow the kingdom to occupy such a good location and continue to decay, so it prepared to weaken the kingdom's power, allowing the Baharuth Empire to annex it.

But unexpectedly, from a kingdom already rotten beyond repair, a figure like Gazef Stronoff emerged. His appearance not only stabilized the factional disputes within the kingdom but also made the Baharuth Empire hesitant to act rashly.

This was simply because he possessed near 'hero' level strength. A person of such strength could, to a certain extent, influence the direction of a war. A 'hero' level individual could slay ten thousand ordinary soldiers on the battlefield, and if he disregarded his own condition, he could ultimately slay around thirty thousand ordinary soldiers.

If Gazef Stronoff was not eliminated, the kingdom's factional disputes would remain suppressed, and even if the Baharuth Empire could annex the kingdom, it would pay a considerable price.

This was something the Theocracy was unwilling to see. They had already given up on the kingdom, intending for the Baharuth Empire to become the nation that cultivated human powerhouses to resist the demi-humans.

Therefore, Gazef Stronoff became the biggest obstacle. This warrior, loyal to the kingdom, could not save this nation. His appearance would only hinder the overall progress of humanity's fight against demi-humans.

In Nigun's view, although the Slane Theocracy had factions, they almost always cooperated during actions and did not care about the minor gains or losses of their own faction.

One reason was that everyone respected the deities they worshipped, and another reason was that everyone knew there were many non-human races and monsters in this world, and if they did not unite and cooperate, there was a danger of extinction.

It was also because of such noble ideals that the Slane Theocracy, despite possessing the strongest power among human factions, would not turn its blade against humans unless absolutely necessary.

The Slane Theocracy had indeed made contact with Gazef Stronoff, but his stubborn ideology of loyalty to the king and loyalty to the nation could no longer be changed. His existence was already hindering the development of the human race.

Had it not been for this, they would not have resorted to such a desperate measure.

"....That's why everyone needs to follow the correct doctrine and walk the same path. Humans should not fight amongst themselves; they should work together to forge a great path!"

Nigun shouted at Gazef Stronoff, who was fighting valiantly, covered in blood.

Gazef Stronoff was covered in wounds and panting. He didn't know how many angel monsters he had eliminated, but every time he killed an angel, the opponent would summon another. With this constant ebb and flow, his strength began to wane.

The strength of these angels was far inferior to his, but he found their special abilities, such as flight, difficult to contend with. If they were on the ground, he would not fear even double their numbers.

Furthermore, if their bodies were not struck by weapons made of specific materials, the damage would be significantly reduced, even Gazef Stronoff's powerful strikes could not slay them. Although he could use martial arts to slay them, this would increase his consumption.

So the correct approach was to slay the enemy's commander. Although doing so would likely not make the opponent retreat, it was the only way.

By calculating the number of people, Gazef Stronoff had confirmed that these were all the individuals surrounding the village. With this, the village's encirclement was lifted.

He felt immense joy at being able to rescue the surviving villagers. Staring at the boastful Nigun, he angrily retorted, "I don't understand your 'great path,' but if your 'great path' means wantonly slaughtering innocent villagers, then I cannot agree!"

"All of this is because of you. If it weren't for your stubbornness, these people wouldn't have died. In other words, there will always be sacrifices on the path to the great road, and they are those who sacrificed. As for you, you are a stumbling block on the great road."

Nigun said to Gazef Stronoff in a mocking tone. The Theocracy had given him a chance, but he had not cherished it.

"Nonsense! To so righteously whitewash a conspiracy and act so despicable, have those noble factions within the kingdom given you benefits?"

After dodging an angel's attack, Gazef Stronoff wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth. His muscles trembled uncontrollably. Due to the angels' physical characteristics, he had to continuously use martial arts to fight, but this also accelerated his stamina consumption.

"Hehehe, benefits?" Nigun sneered, his face full of disdain. "You underestimate the Theocracy too much. The Theocracy's cause is for all humanity. Those parasites are also tumors that the Theocracy will eventually need to excise.

Alright, just accept your fate. Your death will not be without value. For the development of the human race, we will remember your contribution."

Nigun's words sounded extremely sarcastic in Gazef Stronoff's ears, but he didn't want to refute them now. His stamina was already at its limit; he was just a little bit away from reaching Nigun and slaying him, if only he could slay this last angel in front of him.

But things did not go as he wished. Nigun showed a look of pity and waved to his subordinates, "Priests who have lost their angels, summon new ones! Unleash all your magic on Stronoff!"
