Chapter 7 - Bloodlines Awaken(6)

Soren of the Blackwell clan

The meeting room of the Blackwell clan held tension so thick that it was impossible to make a comment that wasn't concerning the matter at hand.

Valek Blackwell, the clan leader sat at the head of the table. Shoulders tense, hands clasped together and eyebrows knitted in concentration.

Beside him sat Soren, the heir to the Blackwell clan. Contrasting to his father's serious face, Soren was sketching on a black leather book. His deep midnight eyes void of emotions, his hand moved with fluid grace, his posture relaxed and his dark brown hair styled to perfection.

His porcelain skin glowed faintly underneath the light of the chandelier.

" Soren, are you even paying any attention to this?" Valek asked, his eyes narrowing at him.

Soren smiled lightly.

" I am, father." he replied, his voice cool.

Lilith, the special advisor to Valek. A female vampire, sharp in tongue but calm in nature. She smiled softly at Soren, her icy blue eyes sparkling faintly.

" Soren, your sketching can wait. Can't it?" she asked.

Soren looked up at her, placing his pencil by the side of his book.

" I am listening, Lilith." he said, leaning back on his chair.

". I know the other clan heirs are going to the academy. I know you are worried they will go there to mess up the system and peace and I know you want me to go to the academy too."

Valek nodded. He sighed, his eyes locked on Soren.

" Do you have an idea of the reason behind it?" he asked.

" Hmmm… it should be because of the chamber." Soren replied.

Valek and Lilith nodded.

" I thought the same too." she agreed.

" There would be no other reason behind their action." Valek said.

" Wrong." Soren said, adjusting his posture as he sat upright.

" The Vesper clan are the first ones to make an attempt on it. The Vale clan are simply keeping an eye on them but soon enough…they will join them too." he explained.

" The Ashford clan would probably say they sent their heir just to learn to cover up their real agenda. The real aim of the Hale clan is still vague to me."

" And as for the Storm clan… manipulation." he concluded.

Lilith narrowed her eyes slightly.

" How sure are you about this?" she asked.

Soren re-opened his book and continued sketching.

" I am not a hundred percent sure but I can bet that half of what I said is true." he replied.

" After all, I studied them."

" If what you said is true, then someone has to keep them in check." Valek said.

" We can just go after the chamber just like them." Lilith said, frowning slightly.

" No! We must not join them in this unjust cause." Valek disagreed.

Soren stretched lazily, yawning lightly.

" I agree with Lilith. Even if we try to put them in check, it will not stop them. It's five against one." he said, licking the tip of his fangs.

" So you suggest we go after the chamber too?" Valek asked.

" Yes. If we find it first, we would have an advantage over the other clans." Lilith said, her eyes sparkling in excitement.

" Tsk! Tsk! Tsk! You hold such greed for power. Don't you, Lilith?" Soren asked, leaning forward as he rested his jaw on his palm.

" Excuse me?" Lilith said, clearly displeased.

She was just excited about the thought of finding the chamber that had been locked away from everyone for centuries. No one dared to make the first move to finding it but since all the clans are going at it at once, the opportunity delighted her.

" Finding the chamber might not grant you the power you so eagerly crave." Soren said.

He stood up slowly and bowed slightly before his father.

" I will start preparations for my departure. And I will make sure to find the chamber." he said.

He gave a final glance towards Lilith.

" You're smart. I trust you won't do anything foolish concerning this."

His lips curved up in a faint smile, as he caught a flicker of irritation cross her face. She hated being undermined and somehow, challenging her actions pleased him.

He turned around, with deliberate, cautious steps walked out of the room.

He too was curious about this chamber he had read about since he was younger. He had studied the maps of the academy very precisely and although, there was no route leading to the chamber, he had a hunch that he would be able to find it once he enters into the academy.

He looked down at his sketch book, opening it a few pages back until it landed on one of the sketches he made.

It was a sketch of an entrance, but the inside of it was filled with darkness. Empty.

He had drawn it when he had a dream about it a long time ago.

" I know this is a hint and I'll unravel it soon." he mumbled.
