Chapter 7 - Advancements

Getting AI to function is an easy thing. Getting it to function well and properly that's another.

So just because it can work doesn't mean it will work well.

I will still need a lot of data, as well as a ton of test runs, before I try to do anything for real with the AI.

Another night becomes morning.

Waking up at a crisp 5 AM.

"Man, I'm not made for these early mornings."

I can only comment to myself as I accomplish my morning routine.

Arriving at my office, I check the progress of everything.

It is coming along nicely, slowly, but nice.

2 hours later.

The morning sun has just started to appear in the sky.

The sun highlighting the absolutely perfect weather for today.

Not a cloud in the sky.

Honestly days like today kind of creep me out. The sky without any clouds just feels too empty and foreign, almost alien. It feels like the weather is over compensating for the previously rainy few days.

Honestly though it is a welcome sight, because now I can finally work on upgrading the Solar Panel, battery, and now the satellite.

It is 7 O'clock in the morning and I'm dragging all of this outside.

Setting up the Solar Panel and battery were a breeze. Now we have to see about the StarConnect satellite.

The setup was actually easy, just pull it out of the box and plug it into the battery. Then plug the 50 foot ethernet cable into the satellite and run it to the house. The cable was not long enough to go through the and into the office, so I just opened the window and lifted the screen.

It may look a little janky, but if it works it works.

I placed the satellite in the middle of my back yard. My house is pretty much surrounded by trees but, both the front and back yard have fairly good sky views. Which hopefully will be enough for it to work.

It should, but you never know.

My house backs up to over 100 hectares of woods, so there are certainly lots of trees.

The hardest part is going to be the account set up. These are typically the biggest pain to deal with.

Downloading the app, creating an account, choosing a plan, and finally payment information, done.

Huh, that took like 2 minutes. Is the satellite working?

What do I use to test it? I have 2 laptops, one is my modern laptop that was the cheapest one I could buy off of Jungle. So it is a very poor laptop, I only use it to type up my little books. The other laptop is a gaming laptop I got before my computer.

Meaning that it once was a little powerhouse but that time has passed. Which one should I choose? Well, there was only one option from the beginning. The old gaming laptop. Why? Because of the 2, only that one has an ethernet port.

So after pulling the dusty old thing out along with the charger. I realize the charger has exploded. But, that's ok I have a large plastic bin that is filled with random cables and chargers.

I'm sure I have an extra in there.

And indeed I do.

After plugging everything into the laptop I turn it on.

As it blinks to life, fan screaming as if being resurrected from the depths of hell. A plume of dust erupting from the fan port. It finally loads up the login screen.

Password.

Umm. Uh Oh.

Oh no, what was the password?

I have no idea. I mean it has been over 10 years.

I will just have to try the password I used for everything as a child.

[Password]

[***********]

Login successful.

Haha, I can't believe that worked.

I'm such a genius.

Now that the laptop is on, what do I have it do, to gain experience for both itself and the satellite.

It is old so not many games work on it.

You know I could just take the stock AI and have it run on the laptop. Yeah, that sounds like a good idea.

After making sure to safely transfer the right external drive, I manage to get the AI up and running on the laptop. It works, but like I suspected it is very slow.

At the end of the day a few things upgraded, those being the solar panel, battery, satellite, extension cable, and the laptop.

The solar panel like last time has gotten more efficient at gathering and converting energy, as well as being more durable and resistant.

The battery has gotten way better at holding energy, the amount, and the time it can hold its charge have both gotten better.

The extension cable similarly to last time got more efficient.

The satellite got upgraded 2 times, so it got significantly better. The data collection and sending of data got a lot better. It actually got scarily better. It can now send and receive 200 gigabytes a second.

The internet plan still limits my speed but, the internet I'm currently getting is actually higher than the plan. Not by much, but it is still faster. The plan is for 50 megabytes a second, however I'm currently clocking 75 megabytes a second. An additional 50% is a crazy upgrade, just imagine the future.

The ethernet cable also got upgraded with the satellite, to keep up with it.

The laptop also got upgraded 2 times. The first barely brought it into the decade, the second pushed it into the higher end. So the laptop is now a high end modern gaming laptop. It has some pretty good processing power, and graphics, but the storage seems a little lackluster. I guess it is a laptop.

I wonder if I should leave the solar panel and satellite out overnight? I looked at the forecast and it's not supposed to rain tonight, or the next few days. Plus I need to keep the satellite running as long as possible, because I'm going to need it for future plans.
