Chapter 25 - More Shopping

Walking back toward the door to grab 2 carts and head back into the store was rather daunting. Because this was the start of my first major shopping spree and I was afraid of the workers' reactions.

Would they think I was stealing? I doubt they would think I was rich in a store this down trodden.

As I made my way back into the aisles no one even looked at me. Maybe I was being too self conscious?

Whatever, I walked down the aisles dropping in my goodies. I started with the things I only needed one of. The drone, VR headset, and the AR glasses. Together they cost $2,557.99. The AR glasses were $409, the VR headset was $499.99, and the drone came in at $1,649.

Now I will need to plan out how many of the other things I can afford.

The computer I decided on cost $2,856.89. The monitor cost $149.99 and the arm cost $59.99.

The ethernet cables are $15.99 a piece but I only need one ethernet splitter for $99.99. The splitter is for 16 ports, I think that will cover it.

I want each computer to have its own satellite to keep up with the speeds. The StarConnect satellites here cost $229.99.

Finally I want to get enough solar panels to curb the power consumption. They cost $360.

Huh, I think I finally understand why there are math word problems.

While standing in front of the computer I pull out my phone and open the calculator. I am going to need to do some math.

If I get one of everything it will cost $3,772.84 not including sales tax. Which is 7%. So the total is $4,036.93.

Now just divide this by my budget. But don't forget the other things I plan on buying.

So my current budget after taking off the other things is $47,262.96.

Divide that by the total from the other. Not to forget that I only need one splitter.

That gives me 12 and some change. However if I add in the splitter I am $4 over my budget. But that is fine, because it was a flawed problem from the start. I didn't add in the external storage, which is $389.99 for a 28 Terabyte drive.

I always planned to get less than the max because the majority was always going to be spent on storage.

If I get half and then spend the other half on storage I think that will work fine.

Half would put the computers at $23,579.64 and after tax $25,230.21.

That leaves me with $22,032.75 to spend on storage drives.

That means I can buy 56 storage drives. But after tax is only 52.

Ok, I have my number.

Now that I was sure I began to pick up the computers one after the other and loading them into the cart. Which quickly filled up.

I think I'm going to need more carts.

The carts were full with just the computers and monitors. I stacked the monitor arm on top and was trying to keep them from falling. When I finally hear a voice from behind.

"Um, do you want me to help you take these to the front?"

I quickly turned around and saw the worker standing there.

It was a girl in the company uniform, black plants, and neon blue collared shirt. She was pretty and clearly goth. But her eyes were soulless and devoid of life.

She didn't even try to give a polite professional smile when she said, "Well?"

"Oh, uh, yeah, that would be great." I stuttered out.

She then helped me drag the cart to the checkout. When we got there she started to grab things to scan.

I jumped in and said, "Oh! I actually have more to grab. It will just take a few minutes."

"Ok, go ahead. I'll start this now, and wait for the rest." She stated. Not really giving me the time of day.

"Um, ok, thank you?" I questioned.

"Yep." I heard her say as I was already walking to grab more carts.

I then made multiple trips grabbing the things on my mental list.

When grabbing the storage drives I realized that there were only 34 storage drives.

So, I walked back over to the girl and asked if there were any more, "Hey, do you know if there are any more 28 TB storage drives?"

Without even looking up from her scanning she replied, "We only have what is on display."

"Hmm, ok." I pondered if I should get any of the others.

While I was thinking she asked, "By the way, do you plan on getting any keyboards and mice?"

"..." I was in a stunned silence.

Keyboard and mouse, how had I forgotten?

The ones at home must be crying in neglect.

I had always just considered them a part of the computer. They had never crossed my mind as something to upgrade.

As I was having an internal meltdown the girl finally looked up and chuckled at my surely dumb looking face while I was dumbfounded.

"So, you forgot huh."

"Uh… yeah."

"Yeah, it's amazing how the simplest of things can slip your mind." She seemed to philosophize. While looking amused at my reaction

"That is annoying, now I have to go back and look at the options." I complained.

"Oh, no~. Woe is me. I have too much money and too many options~." She sarcastically teased me.

I chuckled, "Too many options is also too many problems."

"Sure, sure, I'll be waiting here for you to come back." she shrugged off.

I chucked again as I walked back into the store with yet another cart.

While looking at the options I knew that these wouldn't really matter so I could just buy one of the cheapest ones and call it a day. I bought one that was thin and light weight.

I like typing on non mechanical keyboards, except when playing games. So, I bought 6 thin keyboards and 6 cheap wireless mice as well as a pack of batteries.
