"Xiao Feng," the word left Yuan's lips almost unconsciously, barely louder than breath.
He didn't plan it. He didn't even realize he was stepping forward until his weight shifted and his body followed through.
It was the first time he had ever said Xiao Feng's name.
Even when they were younger, only friends, Yuan had never spoken it aloud.
He had always addressed him directly. He couldn't explain why it had never crossed his tongue before, maybe because he could have sounded like they were close, he didn't want to admit that they were actually close.
But in this moment, it came out naturally, as if it had been waiting years for the right moment to surface.
And once it did, he couldn't bring himself to say anything else.
His mouth opened as if more words were supposed to follow, but nothing came. The space between them suddenly felt heavier than it had been when they weren't speaking at all.
