Chapter 44 - Chapter 44

A month soon passed by since the mission with Levy. Felix spent the time working with Reedus to bring Dragon Ball into the world. Before realizing so many days passed by, he suddenly found himself called over by Makarov.

"Felix, come here. I have a mission for you."

Placing down the latest pages of Oolong joining Bulma and Goku. Felix got up and went over to Makarov who was sipping on his drink. The guildmaster looked a bit serious for a change as he held a letter in hand.

"Master." Felix said.

"There has been a series of suspicious fires and just recently, five were found dead at the latest site. It seems they were killed beforehand and unrelated, but traces of magic were found at the scene. So a request was sent to the Magic Council for help who sent a request for you to assist them."

Felix just nodded as he took the mission slip from Makarov. The location was in a small town called Royal. Looking around the guild, Felix looked at the boy with pink hair and blue cat.

"Natsu, Happy. Do you want to come along for a mission?"

"Next time. I can still smell the corpses of last time." Natsu waved his hand.

"Aye." Happy raised a paw.

Felix looked towards Gray who shook his head. One head after another shook their head, even Mirajane shook her head as she pulled the mission from the board. He even looked at some of the older members like Macao and Wakaba.

"No time, got a little boy at home." Macao gave a half hearted apology.

"I got a little girl." Wakaba gave a similar answer.

Felix felt a bit down since he was rejected once more. Before the door slammed open revealing Erza dressed in her armor dragging a large pile of suitcases.

"How about you Erza?" Felix asked.

"No can do. My gear needs repairs." Erza didn't even hesitate.

Felix suddenly felt a hand patting his shoulder. Turning he saw Makarov attempting to comfort him. That is until he opened his mouth.

"One day you will form a team."

Stepping off the train in Royal, Felix found himself greeted by a small squad of rune knights. The leader among them is a man in his late thirties. Each knight held a stern face as the other passengers who got off took a wide curve around them.

"You are Felix of Fairy Tail, correct."

The Rune Knight Leader asked to which Felix just nodded.

"I am Aaron Hotcher, the squad captain."

Shaking the man's hand, Felix followed the group away from the train station. He soon boarded a carriage as they headed towards the guard station. Upon entering he found a conference room holding a few whiteboards and a few in suits chatting among themselves.

On the board were photos of burned corpses as well reports of the findings after examination. Felix read over noting that all five were females, judged to be in their thirties and seemed to be electrocuted before being strangled to death.

'Lightning magic mage?'

Another thing of note is the five were found near a half build furnace. This is worth a note that the building that was burnt down had no need for it. Due to it being a warehouse, someone speculated the possibility it was a homeless person who was preparing for winter.

This didn't explain why five bodies were around it though. The furnace also seemed specially built as it was quite large. Almost like a crematorium to turn bodies into ash.

"Felix, this is Derek Morgan."

Aaron Hotcher pointed to a muscular bald black man who gave a small wave. Felix just nodded to him as Aaron continued to make introductions. After introducing Derek, he pointed to a thin curly haired man with glasses.

"Next to him is Spencer Reid. The one over in the corner is Penelope Garcia."

Aaron then moved over to the corner where a big woman with blonde hair and glasses was shifting through a large amount of data before her. A blue screen was before her as she typed away at it looking up information as she was using Archive Magic.

"Guys, this is Felix from Fairy Tail. He is here to help with the case."

"What kind of magic traces were found?" Felix asked.

A strange silence fell among the room as they all looked away. Pulling out the mission slip, he double checked and sure enough. It mentioned they found magic traces at the scene, but why are they all looking away now.

"The reporting appears to have lied." Aaron pinched his nose. "The so-called traces were left by her to have us all here. David Rossie, who you haven't met yet is off reporting this, so I will introduce him later."

"Oh." Felix nodded.

Since there was forged magic evidence, this threw heavy doubt on if the culprit is a mage. According to mission rules, Felix could return to the guild and report it to Makarov. In turn, Makarov will spread word to other guilds about who gave the task. This is basically putting those who gave fake quests on a watchlist and if they continue to give false requests. They will basically be blacklisted from most magic guilds. If it is an organization like ERA, then they could ask for some small benefits as payment for the trouble caused by them.

For this benefit, Makarov could ask the council for leniency in the trouble caused by Fairy Tail members for the short term future. This benefit might not be much to other magic guilds, but for Fairy Tail. It was basically turning a small benefit into a major one.

Fairy Tail after all is famous for destruction and causing trouble.

"We still request your help in this case. There is a strong feeling that this killer has more victims and since you're so good at finding them." Aaron Hotcher didn't continue but the message was clear.

They basically wanted Felix to find the other bodies this killer left behind.

"Alright, but I am not a body finder." Felix said.

Pulling open a file, Felix began to examine a picture of the burnt corpses. While looking closer to the bodies, he looked at the notes. There were no traces of clothing on the bodies.

"Did the fire burn away all the clothing on them?" Felix asked.

"No, they were either naked or stripped to their underwear." Garcia interjected. "From the electrocution aspect, I have found a few cases unsolved of unknown bodies. All women who are around thirty and strangled without or little clothing. Just these cases are from all over the Fiore kingdom and even neighboring Seven and Bosco."

"So this killer has been dumping bodies all over. Either they travel a lot or want to make it difficult to link and trace back to him." Derek said.

"Then why the sudden shift in disposal method? Clearly there was no issue of dumping them elsewhere. Why the sudden shift to burning them?"

"Maybe these women were special to the killer or something happened on the killer end." Spencer replied.

Felix just gave a light hum as to him, it appeared that the killer was trying out a new disposal method. Since he clearly just killed five, maybe he killed more to increase the thrill and the risk of discovery is too high. So to counter the risk, a different method of disposal is needed.
