The assassins didn't attack immediately—they simply… stared.

Which, honestly, was worse.

Asteria whispered, "Why are they looking at me like I'm a discount prophecy?"

Kael swallowed hard. "Because you are the prophecy. Or at least part of it."

"I vote we reject this prophecy. Return to sender. No refunds needed."

But fate, unfortunately, did not accept returns.

The lead assassin stepped forward, lowering his hood. He wasn't some faceless villain—he was young, sharp-eyed, and looked like someone who drank too much existential tea.

"Asteria of Lyria," he said, "you are the Starweaver. The one destined to guide the Moon Prince."

Asteria blinked. "I guide nobody. I once got lost inside my own pantry."

Kael whispered, "To be fair, your pantry is enchanted."

"That was one time!"

The assassin continued, annoyingly calm. "Your magic awakened during the Silver Eclipse. Without you, the Moon Court will fall. With you… it might survive."

Asteria turned to Kael. "Your kingdom needs me? Me? The girl who summons firestorms by accident?"

Kael met her gaze—and for once, there was no teasing, no chaos, just sincerity.

"Yes. I need you."

Her heart made that annoying flutter again, the one that felt like a tiny bird punching her ribcage.

Before she could respond, Puff the dragon-cat leapt onto a rock and hissed a tiny spark, reminding everyone he existed and did not approve of destiny.

The assassins—actually "Moon Wardens," as they now clarified—bowed.

"We are not here to kill the prince. We are here to retrieve him… and you."

Asteria groaned. "Kidnapping? Really? Can't you schedule things like normal people?"

"It is prophecy," the Warden replied. "Very little is convenient."

Kael squeezed her hand. "If you come with me to the Moon Court, I swear I'll protect you."

Asteria rolled her eyes. "I protect you, remember?"

"Then we protect each other."

She hated how much she liked that.

And so, under the cracked silver sky, surrounded by destiny and confused moon-warriors, Asteria made her choice.

"Fine," she said. "I'll go."

And the moment she spoke those words, the ground trembled—

—as if the universe had just checked "begin chaos arc" on its to-do list.
