Bryan chimed in with a grin, "Play your cards right, and the buyers might throw in some extra cash as tips."
I put on my most innocent face. "This won't mess up my body, will it?"
Seeing my apparent interest, Lauren launched into her pitch. "Sweetheart, women only drop one egg each month anyway. Giving it to families who can't have kids? That's practically charity work.
"Plus, it barely touches your health. The docs pump you full of vitamins beforehand to keep you strong. Then boom—you're paid. Pretty sweet deal.
"Half the surrogates around here are girls your age. Some cleared their families' debts and are now globe-trotting on the profits."
My tone went ice-cold. "Except your surrogacy operation is completely illegal."
"Illegal?" Bryan laughed it off. "I've got people in my pocket. What's the worry? I'd work the hospital during the day, then get chauffeured here each night. Think anyone's busted us yet?"
